GREENSBORO — Police on Thursday released the identity of a 4-year-old girl who died following an incident late Tuesday at her Caldwell Street home, but have yet to release a cause of death or make an arrest.
The child was identified as Kalli Bekia Martin, who police said lived at 1405 Caldwell St. with her cousin Tonya Dobson Williams and Williams’ boyfriend Anthony Ravon Duncan.
Authorities were called to the home at around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday night to reports of a child not breathing. The girl was transported to Moses Cone Hospital, where she died at around 3 a.m. Wednesday, police have said.
Following an autopsy, police ruled the girl’s death a homicide around mid-day Wednesday, but so far, have not said how Martin died. The autopsy has not been released.
Greensboro police Capt. Janice Rogers said detectives are still investigating the case and could not release further information beyond the identities on Thursday.
In an official recording of the 911 call made from the residence, a female caller reports her four-year old ‘daughter’ was unconscious and not breathing.
She then hands over the phone to a man she refers to as her fianceé.
The 911 operator tells the man specific instructions on how to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the child, which he relays to the woman who he calls ‘Tonya.’
At one point, the 911 dispatcher asks the man what happened to cause the child to stop breathing, though no response is heard on the tape.
The family’s address and phone number were removed from the tape, but Rogers said the recording was not altered in any other way.
The five-minute phone call ends after the man tells the dispatcher firefighters had arrived on the scene.
On Wednesday, Rogers said that seven people were at the home, including the child, Williams and Duncan, at the time the call was made. Police are not elaborating on the identities of the four other occupants, including the number of children present.
The child’s biological parents did not live at the home and were not there at the time of the incident, she said.
Rogers said police are continuing their investigation and are continuing their interviews and work to develop suspects.
She declined comment when asked if Williams and Duncan are being considered suspects.
