CULLOWHEE (AP) — Two former students at Western Carolina University have received probation for charges related to leaving a dead bear with Barack Obama campaign signs on its head on the college campus.
District Court Judge Richlyn Holt sentenced brothers Marvin Caleb Williams and Mathew Colton Williams of Wilkesboro to probation Tuesday after they pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
Their attorney, Kris Earwood, said the brothers were kicked out of the university and now attend community college, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported today.
Assistant District Attorney Camila Wright said a campus police investigation revealed no political or racial motivation in dumping the bear in front of the campus in Cullowhee in October.
The brothers found the bear dead beside a road.
