BURLINGTON (MCT) — The chairman of the Alamance-Burlington Board of Education said he won't run for re-election in 2010.

Instead, Tom Manning will try again for a seat on the Alamance County Board of Commissioners.

Manning has been on the school board since 1998 and is its longest-serving member. He lost a bid last year to become a county commissioner.

In November, Manning ran for a commissioner's seat as a Republican and finished fourth out of six candidates. He came within 300 votes of the third-place finisher. The top three candidates won seats on the board.

Manning plans to announce his intentions today at the Alamance County Republican Party's convention in Graham.
