New owner, appetizers
Alex Ritchy (of M'Coul's Public House and the former Ritchy's Uptown Restaurant and Bar) has taken over Churchill's on Elm (213 S. Elm St., Greensboro; 275-6367).
While enjoying a cocktail, patrons can now order appetizers and light fare off the light menu from Rim Tapas and Fine Wine Restaurant next door.
Franchisee shares the love
Dusty Soots, franchise operator of Chick-fil-A (378-0102) at 106 N. Elm St. in Greensboro, received the Symbol of Success Award at the chain's annual meeting held recently in Long Beach, Calif.
To show his appreciation to customers of this downtown location, Soots and his team will be giving away a free breakfast item from 7:30 to 10 a.m. every Wednesday in March.
Waffle chain makes list
The Waffle House -- that Southern bastion of 24-hour-breakfast where you can get eggs over easy and grits or a hamburger any time of day -- has made Esquire's list of the 59 best breakfast places in America.
The Waysider in Tuscaloosa, Ala., led the list, and The Waffle House came in at No. 53, just after Holiday Inn Express.
But considering the thousands of diners strewn like jeweled beacons across the early-morning darkness of America, making the list isn't mere hash browns.
