STOKESDALE — Lowe's Home Centers will close a Guilford County distribution center, a move that will cost 81 employees their jobs.
Lowe's notified the N.C. Department of Commerce on Thursday that it will close its National Lighting Distribution Center at 7220 U.S. 158. Layoffs will start Aug. 7, and the warehouse will close by Dec. 31.
The company said it no longer needs the facility because it has changed its distribution processes.
Lowe's announced in October 2004 that it would occupy the center, a former Burlington Industries building. The Greensboro Economic Development Partnership said at the time the project would create 70 to 100 new jobs and $5 million to $6 million new capital investment.
