Autopsy: Slain A&T student died from gunshot wound to head

GREENSBORO - A North Carolina A&T student who was gunned down outside his off campus apartment in late January died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to an autopsy released Thursday.

Dennis Hayle, 22, was shot around 3:30 a.m. Jan. 25 outside Campus Courtyard Apartments at 805 Homeland Avenue.

According to an autopsy report from the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office, the gunshot wound that killed Hayle struck the left side of his head, injuring his skull and brain.

The report also notes Hayle suffered from multiple blunt force injuries to the head and face and received a small cut to his lip.

Hayle, a senior, was a criminal justice and political science major at the university and was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

His killing remains unsolved. Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call Greensboro Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.

Callers remain anonymous and become eligible for up to a $7,000 cash reward.
