CHAPEL HILL (AP) — Butch Davis has hired three new assistant coaches at North Carolina.
The Tar Heels coach on Tuesday named Troy Douglas as his defensive backs coach, Art Kaufman as his linebackers coach and Allen Mogridge as his tight ends.
They're getting right to work: North Carolina begins spring practice Wednesday.
Among the top priorities is finding replacements for three standout wide receivers — including all-ACC wideout Hakeem Nicks, who entered the NFL draft early after setting a school bowl record with 217 yards and three touchdowns in the Meineke Bowl.
Davis says this is a critical spring for Dwight Jones, Greg Little and the other Tar Heels vying to replace big-play threats Nicks and Brandon Tate, and sure-handed Brooks Foster.
