GREENSBORO -- Brittanie Taylor-James scored a game-high 27 points, while teammate Amber Bland added 19, as A&T withstood a late rally to defeat S.C. State, 83-74, at Corbett Sports Center.

A&T (19-6, 11-1 MEAC) led 73-60 with five minutes remaining. But Sophilia Hipps went on an 11-0 run, including three consecutive 3-pointers, to bring S.C. State within 73-71 with 3:42 left.

The Aggies grabbed two of the team's 23 offensive rebounds, on the next possession, which led to a pair of Ta'Wuana Cook free throws and a four-point lead.

From there, the Aggie defense stiffened, as Hipps missed a layup and the Bulldogs were forced into a shot clock violation. Cook drove the lane and converted a layup to push the lead to 78-71 with 42 seconds left.

Cook and Tyronnica Alford helped put the game away at the foul line, sinking five of eight free throws between them for the final margin.

Marie Reed led S.C. State (5-20, 2-12 MEAC) with 22 points, while Hipps finished with 17.

A&T received good news from Tallahassee, Fla., as Florida A&M defeated Delaware State, 58-33, thus extending the Aggies' lead to two games in the conference standings.
