ASHEVILLE (AP) — An official with the Denny's restaurants has met with a North Carolina woman who says she was harassed when she was approached about breast-feeding her child in an Asheville restaurant.

Twenty-eight-year-old Crystal Everitt met with Rick Pate, regional director of operations for Denny's, on Sunday.

Everitt says she was doing nothing wrong on Feb. 8 when she was asked to conceal herself or move to a more private area while nursing her 1-year-old son.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported about 30 people gathered to show support for Everitt.

Pate said Denny's tries to provide a non-offensive environment for their patrons and breast-feeding mothers are welcome. Everitt says she wants Denny's to have an official policy on breast-feeding, and Pate said he'd send her concerns along to his supervisors.

I would think any self respecting mother WOULD move to a more private area to feed a nursing baby. Everyone wants everyone to have a stupid "policy" about everything - lets just policy ourselves into total submission.

Is this the whole story? I don't see anything that has Denny's or the manager doing anything beyond making a reasonable request.

It is not a reasonable request when North Carolina's law 14‑190.9 B allows a mother to nurse her child in any public or private place where she is authorized to be. The purpose of a "stupid policy" is to educate staff and employees on the law!

It does not state in the story that they told her she could not continue feeding the child, it states that they asked her to cover herself or move to a more private area.

Well aren't you just Miss By The Book. It's clearly a STUPID law then. I would be quite offended if some fat heffa hauled out one of her teats and started breast feeding while I was trying to enjoy a meal. It's not something the whole world needs to see.
