GREENSBORO - Police have filed the first in what is expected to be a lengthy list of charges against the surviving suspect in a bank robbery and police shoot out from last week.

Christopher O'Neal Patterson, 23, of 3712 Cameron Ave. was charged Tuesday night.

He was charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and is being held on a $2 million bond, according to arrest warrants.

Court documents indicated that more charges are forthcoming.

Patterson is accused in the Feb. 9 robbery of the Wachovia bank branch at 3608 High Point Road that ended in a shootout with police along Patterson Avenue near Interstate 40.

Police say a customer at the bank was able to follow the vehicle of two men who robbed the bank and gave police numerous details about their escape, including a switch of cars.

Greensboro police attempted to stop the vehicle, but one of the men inside fired numerous rounds from a passenger side window, officials have said.

The chase ended along Patterson Avenue when the suspect vehicle crashed, striking Officer Matt O'Hal, who was attempting to lay down stop sticks to slow the car.

O'Hal, who was pinned between two vehicles, along with
five other officers exchanged gunfire with the two suspects, killing one.

O'Hal was struck by a round in his leg and required surgery.

Demarkchrisy Eddie Majors, 22, died the following day at Moses Cone Hospital.

The other suspect - Patterson - remains hospitalized and has been transferred to Central Prison in Raleigh. He will be transferred to the Guilford County jail once he recovers. 

The State Bureau of Investigation is continuing its investigation of the shootout, which is standard procedure in an officer involved shooting.

Patterson and Majors are suspects in other crimes in Greensboro, High Point and Burlington.

Both men have lengthy criminal records.
