GREENSBORO - Attention Apple lovers in the Triad: Your long wait for a closer store will soon be over.
Apple will be opening its retail store at the Friendly Center in Greensboro on Feb. 21.
The store will be between Williams-Sonoma and Anthropologie on Avondale Road.
Job listings for the store were posted in Nov. 2007. But a planned expansion apparently persuaded Apple to wait for a new space, according to ifoAppleStore, which focuses on Apple retail news.
It will also be the largest Apple store in North Carolina.
Apple stores are a must for technophiles. The stores are electronic playgrounds full of iPods, desktops and laptops that customers can check out.
The journey for the Apple faithful in the Triad will be getting shorter, too.
Getting to the state's other Apple stores - in Durham, Raleigh and Charlotte - requires a trek down the interstate from the Triad.
Apple stores are known for their "Genius Bar," the name of the computer service desks staffed with computer whizzes who can help pinpoint computer problems.
Borne by the wild popularity of its iPod music player, Apple and its stable of products have surged in popularity in recent years.
