Foreclosures down in Jan. in N.C.

Foreclosures in North Carolina decreased 7 percent in January from the previous month. They were down 29 percent from January 2008.

Data released Thursday by RealtyTrac shows that 2,386 households in the state received a foreclosure filing in January, including bank repossessions and default and auction sale notices.

Nationally, there was a 10 percent decrease from the previous month but an 18 percent increase from January 2008. North Carolina ranks 33rd among states for the number of foreclosed properties.
