A first-year student at Duke University has bacterial meningitis and is being treated at the hospital.

Officials believe the infection was found early and the student will be fine, according to a news release.

The student was not identified.

The student had been camping out in Krzyzewskiville for tonight's Duke-UNC basketball game. Her illness was diagnosed Tuesday evening.

People who came in close contact with her, including her roommate and her Krzyzewskiville tent mates, were receiving antibiotic treatments Wednesday morning.

Symptoms for meningitis include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck and vomiting.
