Two Triad TV stations, WXLV (ABC, Channel 45) and WMYV (Channel 48), plan to drop their analog signals next week and switch to all-digital.
Last week, Congress passed legislation changing the date for the termination of analog broadcasts of over-the-air TV from Feb. 17 to June 12. The deadline change was voluntary, and stations could still use the original date.
Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns WXLV and WMYV, intends to stick to the original date.
WXLV posted a statement on its Web site that it is seeking to avoid confusion among viewers and has told the FCC that it would like to cease analog operations on Feb. 17.
"Whether or not we will actually terminate analog broadcasts depends upon our receiving consent to do so from the FCC," the statement says.
If approved, the switch will occur at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.
