GREENSBORO - For the fourth time in as many months, police asked residents for their help Thursday in solving two recent homicides.

In two neighborhoods on different sides of town, officers knocked on doors, handed out fliers and talked to neighbors. Officers hope any information they get will help them find two killers.

Near the Claremont Courts housing community, someone left Octavius Orlando Wilson, 37, lying in the street about 1 a.m. on Jan. 22 in the 2400 block of Phillips Avenue,.

"First, they thought it was a traffic accident, but when (officers) got there, they found he had been shot," said Detective Mike Matthews of the Greensboro Police Department.

"Several people are saying they heard gunshots - maybe an argument before."

At Georgetown Manor apartments, investigators found the body of Rhonda Ann Wall, 43, inside her apartment at 3820 Overland Heights off Merritt Drive at 10:15 p.m. on Jan. 22.

Detective Mike Terry said officers were called to check on
Wall at her apartment because she hadn't been seen in four days.

Wall was found in her bed with both stab and gunshot wounds, Terry said.

"She was last known to be alive on the 18th, which was Sunday, but we didn't find out about it to the 22nd," Terry said.

"That makes it extremely difficult to get witnesses and ask them what they saw days earlier."

The deaths of Wilson and Wall were the city's first and second homicides of 2009.

Detectives also are investigating the death of N.C. A&T senior Dennis Hayle - who was gunned down Jan. 22 outside his off-campus apartment at 805 Homeland Ave.

A neighborhood canvass was held in the area around his apartment complex last week.

Police are asking anyone with information in any of these homicide cases to call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.

Callers remain anonymous and become eligible for a cash reward.
