Dorsett files bill on liquor permits near schools

Sen. Katie Dorsett, a Greensboro Democrat, has filed a bill that would prevent a business from obtaining a new ABC permit if they're located within 1,000 feet of a school or church.

The measure, SB 68, was filed in response to a Greensboro case earlier this year. The Greensboro ABC board had considered building a store near the SCALE alternative school on Pisgah Church Road. It eventually withdrew those plans.

Dorsett's bill tweaks a state law that currently prevents new ABC establishments within 50 feet of "church, public school, or any nonpublic school."
