Man thwarts ATM robbery by driving away

GREENSBORO — A 55-year-old man was nearly robbed early this morning while at an ATM on Muirs Chapel Road.

Greensboro police said Robert Parker was using the drive-through ATM at the State Employees Credit Union at 200 Muirs Chapel Road at 1:10 a.m. Friday.

Two men with handguns approached him and demanded money. But Parker drove off. As he did, he hit one of the men. The two men ran behind the bank. Parker was not hurt.

Police described the suspects as two black men who stood between 5-foot-9 and 6-feet. They wore dark clothing, baseball caps and blue bandanas over their faces.
