2009 homicides in Greensboro

Oct. 20 — Jermaine Bennett Tinsley, 34, was fatally shot at the Landmark Inn at 2838 S. Elm-Eugene St.

Oct. 15 — Michael Lamont Medley Jr., 19, was fatally shot during a pre-dawn break-in at 1125 Walnut St. The resident, 80-year-old Charles Haithcock, was not charged.

Oct 11 — Mary Ferrell Jones, 55, was found fatally stabbed in her apartment at 317-A E. Florida St. Her brother, 42-year-old Connell Ferrell, was charged with her death.

Aug. 19 — Joseph Adeyanju Adefolalu, 54 and a cab driver, was fatally shot in the 1200 block of North Raleigh Street during what police believe was a robbery attempt.

Aug. 4 — Breyon Shon Deese, 16, was found shot to death in the Hickory Trails complex. His body was found on a pedestrian bridge in a wooded area between two buildings.

July 23 — Markis Corey Bennerman, 26, was found shot to death in the street outside 911 Caldwell St. Police charged a man in his death, and said the killing occurred after a prearranged meeting between the two turned into a robbery.

July 20 — A man who was shot outside Club Rain nightclub died from his injuries. Police identified the victim as 31-year-old Rufus Lee Morrison III. The club is at 219 W. Lewis St.

May 25 — The body of Angela Marie “Crystal” Woodard, 34, is found outside the RS King Apartment complex at 1004 John Demery Drive. Woodard was strangled to death. Woodard was originally from Atlanta, but had been living in Greensboro for two years, police said.

May 16 — Chakia Monroe, 22, and Larry Irving Jr., 27, were found shot to death near their home in Cedar Trace West Apartments. Police stated that Irving shot and killed Monroe, his girlfriend, before killing himself.

April 12 Carlton Smith, 30, dies from a gunshot wound after police found him in the parking lot at the Sugar Bare Lost Dimension club at 510 Farragut St. at 5:15 a.m. No arrests have been made. Police said they are looking at the club see whether the city has enough evidence to merit its closure through civil action.

March 18 — Police are called to 1405 Caldwell St. just after 11 p.m. March 17 to reports of a 4-year-old girl not breathing. Kalli Brekia Martin died the next morning. The death has been ruled a homicide, though investigators have yet to release a cause of death. The child's cousin and her fiancee, were charged with first-degree murder in the case.

Feb. 9 — Dimarkchrisy Eddie Majors, 22, was shot and killed by Greensboro police on Patterson Street near I-40 in a shootout. Majors and Christopher O'Neal Patterson are accused of robbing the Wachovia bank at 3608 High Point Road and leading police on a high-speed chase, which ended in the shootout. O'Neal was severly wounded, but survived to face charges. One officer was shot and injured in the ordeal. The district attorney said in May that seven officers involved in the shootout acted appropriately.

Jan. 25 Dennis Hayle, 22, a student at N.C. A&T studying criminal justice and political science, is found shot to death at the Campus Courtyard apartments at 805 Homeland Ave. An autopsy report says he was shot once in the head.

Jan. 22 Rhonda Ann Wall, 43, is found dead in her Georgetown Manor apartment at 3820 Overland Heights. An arrest was made in the case.

 

Jan. 22 Octavius Orlando Wilson, 37, is shot in the 2400 block of Phillips Avenue, near the Claremont Courts public housing community. Police found him lying in the street. He later died at the hospital.

Police ask people with information on any of these crimes to call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.
