Greensboro's bid for the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships appears to be on ice for now. Hill Carrow, the Cary businessman hoping to bring the event to North Carolina, said Friday he doesn't expect U.S. Figure Skating Association officials to make an announcement this weekend.
Association officials did not return phone calls Friday. But the USFSA has narrowed the choice for its 2011 championship to two cities: Greensboro and Kansas City, Mo.
In recent years, skating officials have used the current championship to announce future sites. This year's championships, which are in Cleveland, conclude Sunday. But Carrow said by phone Friday that officials told him they were "about a month behind" schedule and would not be able to make a decision this weekend.
"I'm still confident we've put in a good bid," he said. "We just have to wait and see."
Carrow arrived in Cleveland on Friday and will spend today and Sunday lobbying members of USFSA's governing board on Greensboro's behalf.
"We're in equally as a good a position as Kansas City," Carrow said, "but I just want (USFSA officials) and everyone else to know about Greensboro and North Carolina this weekend."
