Hundreds of News & Record readers submitted letters to the president-elect. Below are many of them; other letters that published on Sunday are also online.

Mr. Obama,
It's ALL about what God says and thinks. In His word, He gives us the factors for success. Our nation was created and sustained by His favor! Recently, we have been led astray through stealth, double-speak and plots to hijack the values and opinions of America. I am asking you to retake the moral high ground. Fill our courts with justices of integrity and courage rather than personal agendas. Support the strength of traditional family units and insist on personal responsibility over the "victim mentality".
Our God is bigger than Iran, Russia, the ACLU, and all other enemies of America. We must invoke His guidance and hand in all aspects of governance. He honors those who honor Him. May our nation not fall victim to hubris - thinking that man's ideas and solutions are higher than God's, and may God continue to bless America!
Sharon Underwood, 60

Dear Mr. President,
I just want to say that I am glad that you will be the next president. And that I am thankful to have a president like you in office. Because I am tired of struggling to make bills meet. And I am happy for you and the Obama family. And I just want to let you know that I do keep ya'll in my prayers at night. May the Lord bless you and the Obamas and the United States of America. And keep us safe from harm and danger.
Antron Hemingway, 24

Dear President-elect Obama,
I am so proud of you and to be our president just puts an extra dollop of ice cream on the hot peach cobbler. I will be praying for you and the people you have elected to work with you. Our country has been in such a mess for years that it will be impossible for you to bandage us in one year. I feel you are a very intelligent man and one who knows how to eat the whole elephant is by one bite at a time. About the stimulus check you propose, my check will only help the economy by paying our electric bill, phone bill and house rent. These are the same companies that the city/state has already asked and maybe already gotten a stimulus check. But thanks anyway, it will still be used.
Rachel Ross

Dear Barack Obama,
Congratulations on being elected president. I'm happy for you and I'm praying for you that your time will bring peace to America. Isaiah 54:17 says, "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord." I hope you have a wonderful time in the White House! I pray God will anoint you to lead the country. I will continue to pray for you. God bless you!

Dear Barack Obama,
Congratulations! 1 Corinthians, 13 verse, 4 to 7 says love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. God will direct you in the right path! I'm praying for you, and I will continue to ask God for protection over you and your family. Enjoy yourself in the White House!
Yours truly,
Emmanuel Jatto, 7

Hello Mr. President,
My name is Robert Mobley. I served in the Persian Gulf War and got out of the military with an honorable discharge in July of 1991. Along with most all former U.S. military HUMANS, we have not many benefits. I don't ever ask for handouts, but I really am frustrated that we that served and departed the military before 1996 are denied the benefits of USAA. That is a shame and not too much to ask for. Sorry if I am asking for too much - starting to feel like anything asked for is way out of line. Thanks Mr. President, and I hope to hear from you.
Robert Mobley

Dear President Obama,
The obesity epidemic is yet another crisis in our country and in terms of health can be likened to the financial crisis in terms of economics. Two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, as are one out of three children. Sadly, obesity in children gives a zero percent chance of a normal weight as an adult. Chronic diseases from obesity lead to numerous health care problems and cost trillions of dollars nationwide yearly. Combatting obesity will take a cultural change in the way we eat and think about food. Nutritional labels on foods in restaurants at the point of service will create healthy thinking habits and a demand for healthier choices. Also, replacing the current trend of fast foods in high schools with more nutritious choices is essential. Slimming down America would be a lasting healthy legacy for the Obama presidency.

Dear Mr.President,
I am proud to be an American. You have made history come true. YOU DID IT. So PLEASE do not let our country down like all of our other presidents have. I love my country. We have so much freedom and we take it for granted.
Sincerely,
Christine Phillips, Jamestown

Dear Mr. President Obama,
Hi! My name is Ben. I am 7 years old. I am in second grade and I am home schooled. I have six people in my family and four cats and one dog.
What type of puppy are you going to get? Are you going to like living in the White House? I want to work at Lego Land when I grow up.
Your friend,
Ben Harvey, 7
P.S. My sister Gracie who is 4 wants to know if your girls are going to paint their rooms purple or pink?

* * * * * * * *

Dear Mr. President Obama,

Dear Mr. President Obama,
Hi, my name is Zach. Why do you want to be president ? How are you going to change America? Are you going to stop the war in Iraq and pull the troops out? I am being home schooled. I have two brothers and a sister. Is it cool to be future president and president? Is it a big job? How are you going to change the economy? Are you going to change the rate of taxes? Please e-mail back.

To our president:
Thank you for being willing to shoulder the burdens of this complex world and for seeking to create unity out of division.
I am grateful for the hope you have renewed in our hearts.
I am empowered by your vision for restoring our country's respect among other nations.
Having witnessed the tragedies of a conflicted, segregated society, I am blessed to see the transformation you were able to engender.
I ask that you endeavor to stay balanced in your mind, body, and spirit in the midst of the chaos of our tumultuous world by remembering that as you serve the millions who depend on your wise leadership, you must continue to find time for yourself that restores and renews you.
I pray for your continued strength and wisdom.
I will contribute to my community and country to do my part to be the change we seek.
Gabrielle Beard

Dear Barack Obama,
I was so excited when they announced you as the 44th president of the United States. It brought tears to my eyes and I jumped up and down and screamed your name with pride for about 45 minutes to an hour. I never thought I'd see the day that a black man would run the country. It is such a delight to be a part of this. My grandmother is 98 years old and she also lived to witness this part of history.
Having you in office allows my 2 children, especially my son, to see that you can be whatever you want to be in life. All you have to do is put your mind to it and do it. I will continue to root for you, and I know that in due time the economy will be back on track. BE BLESSED!!!!!!
Traci Marshall, 32

Dear Mr. President,
37.3 million Americans, all ages, races, working and unemployed, live in poverty. According to the U.S. Census Bureau Poverty Thresholds for 2007, a family of four earning less than $21,203 lives in poverty. 15.6 million people were living in extreme poverty, those with incomes below half the poverty line. Unemployment compensation is about 50% of income and throws many into dire poverty. Please expand and create government programs that give all Americans jobs, decent wages, housing, affordable health insurance, adequate unemployment compensation, and disability for the disabled. And ask all Americans to help end poverty, homelessness and the accompanying despair.
Julia Littlejohn, 57

President-elect Obama,
Your recent choice for Secretary of Agriculture is a VERY BAD choice for those of us who believe in organic foods. Tom Vilsack promotes genetically engineered crops and is not a friend to organic gardeners, but he IS a friend to the nasty Monsanto company. I just signed this petition to try to block his confirmation. I'm a firm believer in organic foods and avoid GMO (genetic modified) foods always. ...I implore you to look into this as this will be a disaster in time to come. ... Did you know that Japan does not allow GMO foods?
From Joni Scott, a strong
believer in you and a great helper during the campaign

Mr. President-elect,
As a free citizen, I realized as a black man what the word free really means as I saw you winning the election. Freedom is not having a job but having the opportunity to pursue a job. Freedom is not reading a book but having the opportunity to read the words freely. So, as I stood there, watching you and your family, I realized freedom is not having a family, but having an opportunity to love your family, freely. That is why I write this letter to you. We the people are not just saying we are in the United States but are saying we are a family of the United States. So, my word to you is this: People make major corporations and small businesses. A "bailout" should be for ordinary people, not the corporations.
Talmadge Brown, 45

* * * * * * * *

To President Obama,
We elected you; that proves we want change. Can the ones of us that are being oppressed, get a "bailout," too? It's time for us as a nation to take care of home, our own. The troops, past and present, our elderly and disabled, the down-trodden and less fortunate should be of major concern. We're branded as the "melting pot," supposed to be founded as "one nation under God," but to me our government is there for everyone but our own citizens. We are supposed to be our brother's keeper and the role model for other countries. We must correct the problems and mistakes that we face before we can be an example to others. Mr. Obama, I pray you are the man who will finally take the ultimate important stand to help us demand what is true, just and upright.
Sincerely,
Ada Couch, 45

Dear Mr. President,
This September 27th, I met you at the Greensboro rally. That was such an inspiration to me. I went out and campaigned for you, knocking on doors. Now, I volunteer in an Obama group. I'm semi-retired and think everyone should do what they can.
Please consider releasing the former border patrol agents Ramos and Campion, who are in prison for doing their job, according to their training. They need to be with their families. This is an injustice.
Recently, a lady holding a package, standing in line at the post office, said, "I'm sending masking tape to my son in Iraq. He said: 'Mom, I need lots of tape to hold my shoes together, send lots. I don't have another pair.' " Please help our service people with supplies.
Finally, please remember health care, economy, Medicare and Social Security. We trust your judgment.
Shirley Bowman, 72

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I am a kid at the Academy at Lincoln. I think you should keep gas prices at about the level they are now. I think we should even-up the world's resources. People are taking up more than their share.
I also have some requests. Can you start replacing stores' light bulbs with the longer lasting light bulbs? Also, can you start investing money in making better cars?
I think that you will be a great president. We'll be back on track in no time at all.
Sincerely,
Hank Stafford, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to give you some advice. When you are deciding on something, get everyone to vote on it because when you do that, you know what is the majority of everyone's opinions.
I also have a request for you. The United States is having an economic problem right now and I would like for you to fix it.
I think that you were very brave to compete to be President. It is quite a big job! I think that you will do well in the job of being president. I don't think I could ever have enough courage to try to be president.
Sincerely,
Emma Kate Stapp, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
There are some things that I would like to tell you. First, I would advise you to try to stop the war in Iraq. I think that all of the world's countries should work together to solve the economic crisis and a war would prevent that.
I also request that you help countries that aren't doing too well, like countries that are poor or don't have enough food. The reason I request this is that they didn't do anything to deserve this (problem).
Lastly, I would like to encourage you to keep trying to solve the problems that you are already trying to solve. The problem I would encourage you to try to solve is the economic crisis. Have a nice day.
Sincerely,
Elijah Stiles, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think you should add more parks near neighborhoods. It would be good for little children around ages maybe two to eight, and it would be good for pets, too.
You maybe can encourage people to fund raise money for the sick people in Africa. It would mean a lot to them.
I think you can do all of this. I have a dog and I think she'll enjoy a park close by.
Sincerely,
Will Crandall, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think other presidents have been lazy about global warming and pollution. I think that should be one of your main focuses because it is causing us a hard time living. We need to stop it! It is all up to you, Mr. Obama.
Also, war is getting on my nerves. We need peace. I like your decisions about war. Please keep these decisions up. They are great!
Mr. Obama, you are our greatest president. Your ideas are superb! I know you will make great decisions and keep our country safe.
GO OBAMA!
Sincerely,
Andrew Dagger, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I have a question. Would you please lower gas prices because people drive around a lot, and sometimes they complain about the gas prices. For example last summer, gas was about $4.00 a gallon. You did really good during the election, and you're going to do good as a president. You became president at a rough time, but you can fix it.
Here's some advice: Making the economy better will be tough, but if you can make smart choices and believe you can do it, you will.
Sincerely,
Jackson Hales, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think that you should try to lower tax prices. The reason is that a lot of people are losing their jobs. Also, if you can, it would be nice to have businesses pay their employees more money. I think employees should be paid more because money isn't worth as much as it used to be.
When you become president, I'd like you to end the war. Why can't Earth be peaceful? My last request is that you try to give more tax money to hungry children and human health care.
Some advice to you would be to spend tax money on fixing broken roads and buildings, not on new buildings and things that we don't need. An example of this would be the new Walgreens right across the street from CVS Pharmacy. We didn't need that Walgreens.
I think that if you try hard, you can do these things. I believe in you!
Sincerely,
Chrissie Ivanova, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations for being elected president. I am a nine year old that is giving you advice to run the country. As being elected president, you should run the country with responsibility. If you don't, the country and economy will go completely upside down. Also, you should be honest and trustworthy because you need to have everyone rely on and trust you.
I also have some advice for you. As president, you should help the economy. You should do this because the economic crisis is getting worse by the minute and may get worse than the Great Depression.
I really want to encourage you to do what you think is the right thing to do because you will be the one that will run our country. Run the country really well and you will be a great president.
Sincerely,
Patrick Farrelly, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think you will be a very good president. I'm so glad you won. I'm also glad because by you running, it got a lot of dark skinned people to vote.
I do have some advice. You could not raise taxes or gas prices. I think this is important because if you did this, people might regret your being president. Also, people would lose money and the economy would be worse than it is now.
I have one request. Please give more money to my school (The Academy at Lincoln) because we might be able to learn better in a better learning environment.
I hope you like being president.
Sincerely,
Anna Covington, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
When you become president, you should do what you think you should do since you are the president. It may or may not be right, so you have to think. You won, so you must be the right president. You'll probably make the right choices.
You can fix this mess we are in. Possibly lower taxes? Stop global warming? You should be able to do this.
You should stop the war in Iraq. Enough people have gotten hurt.
Take my advice and think hard. Try to make the right decisions.
Sincerely,
Mary Kate Purcell, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
First of all, I think you will be a really good president. Congratulations on being elected. I know you will do an excellent job!
Now, let me give you some advice. You should try to stop the Iraq War. It's sad all those soldiers are being killed. You should make sure nothing like 9/11 happens again. If you could stop the rain forests from being cut down, it would be nice. Also, I heard that if we gain six degrees from global warming, coastal cities will flood.
The environment and security are most important to me.
Sincerely,
Nick Dobson, 10

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
You should help the schools with their supplies. It will help us children be smarter and better.
You should even make homes for the poor. That will help the poor who live on the streets. The poor need help so you should do something for them.
We need more health care.
I hope you do well. I know you can do it! Good luck!
Sincerely,
Jason Willett, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to say congratulations about the election.
As president, you might want to donate some of your money to the poor. Another thing you should do is to tell schools that they should bring in the most nonperishable food, and if they bring in the most food they will win a little prize. You may also ask workers to build houses for homeless people. When you give speeches, you could ask people for donations for the poor.
When you are president, you might want to stop the war.
Remember that you are the first black president. You have been elected president by America. You gave speeches over a year and you won! You must be very happy.
Sincerely,
Laith Al-Jaouni, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to say congratulations on your success. I would also like to give you some advice. First, we need help with the economic crisis. Everyone is struggling for survival. Second, we need more police. There are lots of bad people. Third, I would advise you to stop the war with Iraq.
I would also like to request a few things. First, we need a raise in the minimum wage because everyone is suffering. Second, lowering taxes wouldn't hurt. Third, there would be no harm in decreasing the overcrowded jail population. You are sure to succeed with these helpful tips.
Sincerely,
Cherine Thomas, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I request to please fund money to NASA. Space is my favorite subject. If you fund enough, we will be able to put a man on Mars by 2032.
All you have to do is what you did as a senator, but on a bigger scale. Just think about now, not tomorrow, not yesterday. Just think about what's happening now.
Good luck, and thank you.
Sincerely,
Bradley Moreau, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations in winning the election! I can't wait until you're president!
I have some questions. How are you going to solve the economic crisis? Are you going to change to natural gas, and then wind and solar, or are you going to stay with crude oil and then progress to wind power?
I also have some advice. I think you should start working on health care and while you're doing that, I think you should work on education. You can build more schools in poor districts. Then you can make the change to wind and solar power. After that, you can stop the war in Iraq.
Congratulations again, and thank you for reading my letter.
Sincerely,
Vijval Rajan, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to congratulate you on your election.
I am very concerned about the economy and the environment. If businesses have to close, then a lot of people could lose their jobs. They might not be able to afford their homes or even food for their families. Perhaps everyone in America could receive a voucher to be spent at an American car dealership or the person could sell their voucher. I know that you have a lot of smart people helping you figure out this problem.
I am worried about air pollution because if air pollution goes too far it would be toxic to humans and animals. If we cut down too many trees at once it will be harder to get clean air. I think every business owner should have to plant a tree for every tree they cut down. I know that you want to leave a safe, clean world for your daughters and kids like me.
Good luck with these and the many other challenges that you'll face as President.
Sincerely,
Sam Farrell, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think that doing the job of being president is one of the hardest jobs ever. I think that you can do a great job at it so we can have a great country with a great leader.
I am aware of some of the many problems that you face. Wages are a problem because people aren't getting enough money because of the war. I really hope you can stop it. That is my only request.
Remember, you've made history, so if I were you, I'd keep honor in it. It was a hard election, but you did it! Keep it up and do great!
Sincerely,
Kevin Guerrero, a fourth-grader

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I just wanted to congratulate you on winning the election.
If you don't mind, I'm also going to give you some advice. For starters, you should get some security on your phone so you can use it safely. Secondly, if you ever feel stressed out, you could count to fifty and breathe deep.
Can I ask you a favor? Could you please ask Congress if they will make a law that you must be sixteen to go on "My Space" because my 9-year-old cousin has an online boyfriend.
By the way, I think that you are awesome. I'm very happy that you got elected.
Sincerely,
Tiffany Hoover, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to congratulate you for being elected to be the next president of the United States of America.
I would like it if you would try to use some tax money to go to schools for better playgrounds and to put all the things in math books into CD's because the math books are so heavy.
I think that more people would like you if you keep the promises you spoke of during the debates and speeches. Already, probably about a million people like you, counting me.
Sincerely,
Catriona Dick, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on your election.
I heard that you are going to donate $850,000,000,000 somewhere. Where are you going to donate it? If you donate it to a bank and people can't pay the bank back for the loans, won't that cause an economic disaster?
Why do we pay so much for gas and use too much electricity? We should just use solar-powered cars.
I hope you make a great president for the next four years.
Sincerely,
Ethan Cullis, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I have requests, advice and encouragement for you.
I think that you should help the school program. Seeing as I'm in the fourth grade, that would help me a lot. There are multiple things you have said that would help schools in my country.
Another thing that I hope you will do is help us in this economic crisis and fix the stock market.
I would obviously not know as much about being president as you would, but I would like to give you some advice. As president, you should respect others as they respect you. I'm not saying this as though you're not respectful, but that this is always a good thing to do.
I really hope you do well and carry out all of your plans. You will be a great president and a great role model.
Sincerely,
Parker Zeig, fourth grade

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I know you will do a great job being president! On November 4, I was very excited about who was going to win. I am very happy that you won. Do a good job!
I have a few requests to ask you. See if you can somehow fix them, please. I heard we are running low on gas and that the prices are going up. I think you should try to fix that problem.
In social studies, our class learned that there are only sixty-one trees for each person on earth. Can you please try to help the forests left in the United States?
My last thing to say is that you should make friends with other countries. I hope you do well as president.
Sincerely,
Jared Kohrt, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on becoming the president-elect. If you try, I bet you will be the best president in the history of the U.S.A.
I have some things I want you to try to do. If you can, I would like you to give some money to the auto makers because they're in deep financial trouble. Would you also try to make an eco-friendly plan for humans and animals? Will you please help the people losing their homes? They need a place to live.
I know you will be a good president. Thank you for reading my letter.
Sincerely,
Tristan Field, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would just like to say that my dad and also my mom thought strongly about voting for you, and our whole family was overjoyed when you won! Congratulations!
Some advice for you is to keep organized and pay attention to your surroundings. If you're not organized, you'll end up having a sleepover at 2:00 p.m. (presidents don't go to sleepovers.) If you don't pay attention to your surroundings, you might be signing a bill to become a law in the bathroom!
Also, if anything, I would give as many people as possible enough money for holidays, birthdays, but most importantly, enough to survive.
Lastly, I would like to encourage you on the duty of the president. It will be hard, but don't get frustrated about one little tiny thing, and don't get side-tracked.
Good luck!
Sincerely,
McGill Carter, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to discuss some things which may make everyone's life better. Firstly, I would like to give you some advice. You said that you were going to give $850,000,000,000 to the economy to let the banks give more loans. Where are you going to get this money? Won't people just take out so much money that they won't be able to pay back the loans, just like what happened before? Won't that plunge us into another economic disaster?
I would also like to state a request from me personally. Rather than spending more money on trying to find more oil, I was thinking that we could make solar paneled cars and eliminate all inefficient fuel cars. This would also help global warming, would it not?
I hope that you can (will) make the right choices as president. Also, I hope we can keep our economy straight with you as president of the United States.
Sincerely,
Henrik Andersen, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I wish to congratulate you on winning the election. I know that being president is a hard job, but I know that you can do it!
I would like to give you some advice from my point of view. I think that you should try your hardest to help the envirofnment. I am very concerned about global warming and the rain forests. Please try to help!
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
Sincerely yours,
Shannon Smith, 9

Dear President-elect Obama,
I am pleased to have an opportunity to talk with you. I was hoping that you would take my advice about what some fourth- and fifth-graders want. I've heard grown-ups say that the economy is really bad and that maybe you can make a prodigious difference. If the food prices could go down, that would help because people have been losing their jobs and prices have been going up. That would be a great thing for you to do for everyone here.
Please, I have a request not for me, but for a lot of kids. Please, could you make good education available for everyone because it is very important to get your knowledge? This is needed in many places in the U.S. Many kids need better education because they are poor.
President -elect Obama, please accept my wish for good luck for your journey to be president. You will make America a better place to live and stay. Good luck from all.
Sincerely,
Ramya Kolagani, 9

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think that you should spend money on people who are poor so they can stay healthy. I think you should also spend money to help the sick so that they can live. Another thing is that you should say tobacco products are illegal because people could die from them. Another reason why tobacco products should be illegal is that they cause a lot of pollution in the air. The last thing is that you should help the country and do what is best for it so everybody stays safe and healthy.
One of my requests is that you stop the war in Iraq so people in the Army don't get hurt. Another of my requests is that you should stop the economic crisis so everything can get back to normal. Also, please try to stop pollution so that animals in the Arctic don't die. My last request is that the workers that cut down trees to make paper should cut down fewer trees.
I hope that you do a good job. I also hope that a lot of people like you as their president. I hope that you don't have trouble doing the president's job.
Sincerely,
Hunaid Puri, 4th grade

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think that you should use money for poor people. It would help them so they will have enough food to eat and stay healthy. I think that you should donate money to sick people so that more of them can survive.
I am glad that you are going to be president and I think you can encourage people not to do drugs so that not as many people die from them.
I request that you stop the war between the U.S.A. and Iraq. Many soldiers are dying from it on both sides. I think it would be best if we make peace with Iraq.
Sincerely,
Rachel Dou, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think you should say what you will do as president and what your major accomplishments will be. Will you lower gas prices? Will you help homeless families? What will you do? Say what you feel should be done. I think this because the people want to know what you are going to do as president.
I know you will be a marvelous president. You can do it, I know you can! You'll make it through this! Get up there and be yourself. I think this because in "Kids Voting," I personally voted for you.
Sincerely,
Victoria Geib, 9

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think that we should be in the war. You should fire up the military and keep ready for any attack. But I would like it if you made an alliance with other countries.
It would be good if you could help the environment and make solar powered cars.
I would like it if milk could cost less because calcium is something everyone needs.
I hope you will do the right thing. I'm on your side whatever happens. Congratulations on becoming president!
Sincerely,
James Watkins, fourth-grader

Dear President-elect Obama,
Please keep the promises that you made to the United States. Try to stop the war in Iraq. If you can, lower taxes. Millions of families would be very grateful.
Thank you for taking this responsibility, and good luck as president.
Sincerely,
Ethan Stevenson, fourth-grader

Dear President-elect Obama,
My family and many other families are in great danger of having to live on the streets, and the people in this situation need your help. I suggest that you should fix the economy and get the money moving by bringing the troops back from Iraq.
Sincerely,
Trevor Heil, 9

Dear President-elect Obama,
I know that being president is a very hard job so I have some advice for you. I think you should try not to get upset with bad questions at press conferences so people in the United States will like you.
I would like to request that you try your best to help the U.S. economy. It is at one of its worst times ever. I think you will do a fabulous job as president, just like some of our past presidents.
Sincerely,
Ethan Kreager, 9

Dear President-elect Obama,
Being president is a very hard job, but you'll get used to it. Every now and then you will make mistakes so don't get mad.
One thing, try to keep the gas prices down because they were really high in the summer. Don't be wasting too much money on sending troops to Iraq. That doesn't mean I don't want you to send troops over, but just not a lot. Try to keep the taxes down.
If you do what I wrote in this letter, I think you'll be a great president.
Sincerely,
Hardy Brown, 9

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on winning the election! You were truly the best candidate. I think that you will be one of the best presidents ever. I hope that all of the problems we have will be fixed, thanks to you.
I have a question. As president, how will you try to solve the economic crisis? It really is a serious issue. If not solved, results could be disastrous. I know we'll find a way to solve it.
I have a bit of advice. I think the troops in Iraq have done their job. I think you should send them home. Families must be so worried.
All of these problems can be solved. And who knows? Maybe you'll solve all of them.
Sincerely,
Matthew McDonald, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Is there any way that you could do something for the homeless? Every night, I lie in bed until 10:00 wondering how they survive at night.
In social studies, we learned about the Earth. My teacher said the Earth was very polluted. Is there any way that you could stop that?
I think you will be a great president. I also think that you will try your best. I hear the news every morning, and what they say about you is very good.
Sincerely,
Spencer Smith, 9

Dear President-elect Obama,
I am so glad that you got elected!
Let me give you some advice. Don't say something that nobody wants to hear you say. It could mess up your reputation. Also, don't try to be funny. I know, I'm the class clown.
I also request that you will help anyone who needs it, especially if it is with economics. Money is scarce for everyone and I know you can fix it. Please help!
I know that you will do great. You will be on top of the United States after January 20.
Sincerely,
Jack Purdie, 9

Dear President-elect Obama,
As the president, I think you should help the poor because if we give them food, clothing, and shelter, we will have a happier economy. All you have to do is drive to where they live and give them their needs.
I also think we should not start another war because many people will die.
Finally, I just wanted to say good luck with your new job.
Sincerely,
Grant McClearn, 9

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think you should really try to bring back the soldiers from Iraq and stop the war that our former president started. I think you should do this not only for me, but for the many people that are suffering because the people they love are dying. It will probably be hard to stop the war, and it might not be quick, but I think you can do it for the citizens of America.
I also think that you should try and help our environment because of global warming and many other reasons.
You will be a great President.
Sincerely,
Carolina Ramsey, 11

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
As the president of the United States, I know that you have a lot of pressure to please all of the citizens. Many people want different things, and I know you will make the right choices.
I was hoping that you could help stop hunger. One way you could help would be to lower food prices. This would help in many ways. An example is that shelters could more easily afford good food for the people who live there. Also, you could build more shelters for families that can't afford a home. This would give more people a place to live and get food for free.
Many people disagree on different issues, but if you let the people choose, even if some people don't agree, most will.
Sincerely,
Mallory Redmon, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to congratulate you for winning the election. I would also like to congratulate you on making history by being the first African American to ever become president. My family and I will give you all of the support possible.
If you don't want to be hated by the population, I suggest that you don't do things that our former president did. Please listen to what kids and families have to say. Kids are really important to our country because they will be in charge one day.
I would really like it if you can ask for more high tech gear for hospitals because a lot of people die without it. I would also like it if you could raise taxes so schools could have more books and equipment.
Sincerely,
Devon Biddle, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I congratulate you on your landslide of a win.
I have lived in my house for three years now. My neighbor recently had a stroke from a tumor in his head. He made a great recovery and is moving around and talking like a pro, but still has the tumor. Also, my amazing neighbor's son sadly passed away from a heart attack. I believe these examples explain why we need more money for medical research and more money for hospitals. Maybe you could get more equipment for doctors' offices, also.
I strongly believe in health insurance for all Americans. It isn't fair to me that middle-class and upper-class people can afford health insurance, but not the people who really need it, the lower class. I think everyone should be healthy. For everyone to be healthy, we've also got to have a clean Earth. We need to find safe and clean organic materials to use to make gasoline and stop pollution. We also need to clean litter and waste off of our land and oceans. We need to save the untouched land that developers haven't taken over yet. This will provide homes for wildlife.
We need jobs back in America in factories instead of importing and exporting. There are so many other problems like saving the whales from Japanese fishermen. Please do your best!
Sincerely,
Addy Hall, 10

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on helping our country take another step forward. We need someone with your views.
I think you should take the majority of the troops out of the Middle East because the governments of Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan have started to stabilize and now only need minimal help.
You should help Americans develop more fuel-efficient cars that help cut down on oil use and pollution. America uses 38% of all of the world's oil. If all of the world consumed like the average American, we would need five Earths!
Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to read my letter.
Again, congratulations.
Sincerely,
Lilly G. Winfree, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I'm very glad that you won the election. I know you'll do your best.
I've noticed lately that the world has become a nervous wreck. Prices are going up for everything and everybody is going crazy! My advice is to make everybody just start over. Make fair prices or raise everyone's pay. I'm not saying to take control over the market, just to set it straight. The reason that I say this is because this crisis is worse than the Great Depression. It will probably last longer, too.
Either way, I know you will do great. I bet you'll be the best president ever.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Hobson Sherrill, 11

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on being the new president-elect. I am very happy for you.
I think, in office, you should try to get Americans to use fewer resources, for if every country consumed as many resources as the United States, we would need five Earths!
As for education, would you please make a "No Child Pushed Behind" bill? "No Child Left Behind" is doing its job for the kids that don't understand the lessons, but those that do are bored. My sister is in 7th grade and she has to take math classes with the 8th graders because otherwise she would be listening to information that she learned in the 5th grade!
I think you will be a great president.
Sincerely,
Carlee Shepard, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on winning the election. I know you will be a great president. Also, congratulations on being the youngest and first black president of the United States of America.
I think you should take our troops out of Iraq. If you do, you will save lives and money. You should also try to get loggers to cut down fewer trees. I may only be 10 years old, but these are the concerns you may consider working on.
I think more money and time need to go into schools. There is a lot of equipment some schools can't afford. I also think that recess and gym class should be one hour long.
Sincerely,
Marcus Anthony, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
May I first say congratulations on your recent win in the presidential election.
I am writing to inform you of certain issues that I find important and the ways that I propose they might be solved. I will start by addressing the issue of the number of jobs being dropped. My dad is an accountant working for a furniture company called "Lazy Boy" which recently dropped 10% of its employees. I propose that this sort of thing could be brought to a minimum if companies would keep their offices in the U.S.A. instead of overseas.
Next, I think that if companies added new jobs so that they could get more done faster but pay workers slightly less, they could stay efficient without losing jobs or moving overseas. Then, figure out ways to increase the value of money so that the entire economy goes back into shape.
Finally, good luck, and remember that the Academy at Lincoln believes that you can solve the crisis at hand.
Sincerely,
Dylan O'Connor, 10

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to give you some advice. First, you should keep troops in Iraq. If you bring them back here, troopsfrom Iraq might come and bomb our houses. I'm sure you don't want that.
Next, I would like to ask you to change school lunch food. Most schools' food isn't good, and kids would be happy if you could change that.
My friends and I would like for you to notice the environment. We think the environment is very important, but some people don't. If you could encourage people to be more environmentally friendly, we would appreciate that.
I'm sure you will be a great president. I hope you have a good term.
Sincerely,
Katie Wenger, 10

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on the election!
Do you think the environment could become an important issue? My friends and I are doing everything possible to help. It would mean a lot if you helped, too! Even if you choose just one way, it could make a huge difference.
I believe that you can change America. You can encourage Americans to recycle, walk, or use a bike more often, and turn off lights before they leave a room. You can encourage companies to make energy-efficient products.
My last topic is finding new renewable ways of creating power. This is a large issue. Without creating renewable power, we will just have the same problems again and again.
I ask you to please try to make even the smallest difference and remember that others are trying hard, too.
I fully support you.
Sincerely,
Julia M. Dorn, 10

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I am very pleased that you won the election over John McCain. You seem like a much better leader than he is.
I have some concerns about the economy and global warming. Why does everyone talk about solar-powered cars and conserving energy, but hardly anyone does it? I would use these cars, but I don't know where to find them. If you put them in stores like Walmart, I think people would buy them. I know that everything is expensive because of the resources used to make the products, but could you maybe find a different resource?
The war in Iraq has gone way too far. There is no reason to use violence for an answer. It didn't work for six years and it isn't working now. Please stop the war and bring the soldiers home. We want to live in peace.
You should make a great president and leader for the United States.
Sincerely,
Grant P. Mullins, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on winning the 2008 election. I am truly honored that you are reading my letter. I can tell that you will be a great president.
My advice to you is to be a fair and caring president so people will vote for you again in 2012. I also want to tell you that you should follow the example Bill Clinton set, for when he was president, our country had probably the best eight years in nearly a century.
You should also watch out for the amount of the world's resources that the United States uses because our country uses a lot. Also, there are many people who don't have jobs in the U.S. so you might want to try to do something about that.
My biggest request is for the war in Iraq to be settled in a nonviolent way.
Please work hard as our president.
Sincerely,
Jake T. Skigen, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I feel honored to have the opportunity to be able to write to the leader of this country, and I thought that maybe you could listen to a small amount of my humble advice.
It is manifest how global warming is affecting the Earth. Some say it's a "fact," yet others call it "fiction." I don't know the truth, but I am requesting that you clean up our nation's environment by doing anything you can to help support it.
Finally, I would like to congratulate you on winning the 2008 election. I am sure you will turn our country into a wonderful and prosperous place.
Sincerely,
Maggie Chen, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
The first thing I would like to tell you is congratulations on being the first African American president. I think some people didn't vote for you because they were still racist, or they didn't like your plans, but you got so many more votes than Senator McCain. You're probably going to be a great president.
Even though I don't know much about the Iraq War, I think you should stop it. The war has been going on for six years. Hundreds of people have been killed, and hundreds more will be if the war isn't stopped.
Since you were very popular with voters, I'm sure you will be very popular as president. I think you're the best president in a very long time. Well, since I'm only ten, I wouldn't really know, but I still think you'll be a great president.
Sincerely,
Kristen McCain, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on winning the election! You are very smart. I know you'll do an outstanding job. You're a great person so I'm sure you'll be a great president.
I have some ideas that you might want to consider. Right now, I think the most important thing is to bring the troops home. People are dying and we're not any closer to solving our problems.
Americans use more resources than we should. If everyone lived like we do, we would run out of resources. Some people don't have clean water. If we didn't waste so much, they would have some.
Please help our country. Especially now with people heavily in debt, we need your help. Our country could be great. We just need somebody to help us get there.
Sincerely,
Carly Malcolm, 11

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations! I know you will be a great president.
Maybe you would consider some of my ideas to help this country environmentally, physically and economically. One of my ideas is to ban cutting down trees in rain forests and private property. Also, plant trees in certain areas so we can breathe fresh air.
Would you be kind enough to ask the car companies to invent a car that doesn't run on gas but uses human energy? It won't use as many natural resources and will help the fattest country in the world. I also think that you should save endangered animals by making a home for them.
Please read my letter and consider my ideas. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Logan R. Smith, 10

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations! You're going to be the best president ever.
I am the co-creator and head administrator of an international Web site on global warming and climate change. I just wanted to give you some suggestions on our environment and how we can tackle that problem and help our economy.
One idea I had is to have a "green" energy farm owned by the government. There would be wind, solar, and geo-thermal technologies all across the country. We could supply ourselves with enough energy, and we could sell some off to China, which would make our economy do well and get us out of debt. Another idea is that we could have a standard for m.p.g. which I would say should be 35. With this, companies would be forced to do research and design better cars. This will help Americans with gas, which is going to be expensive. This will also make "green" and hybrid cars more affordable. This will also help by making the amount of oil imported from the Middle East and South America less, thereby helping our budget.
I also highly oppose off-shore drilling. We won't get a drop of oil for ten years, and if we are smart, we will not need it. Drilling would hurt our wonderful ocean life.
All I ask from you is to consider our Earth when you are in office - that you know some things are not good and some things are. Most importantly, you know that "green" can create millions of new jobs.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Jacob Coughlin, 11

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I am truly honored that you are reading this letter. Mr. Obama, congratulations! You have made history in this election by becoming the first African American to be elected president.
I only have one request for you, but it is very important. The government always says to "eat healthy," but how can you eat healthy when healthy foods are usually so overpriced? Also, there are hardly ever coupons for healthy foods, and a lot of people now have to use coupons. My request is to lower healthy food prices so America won't be so obese.
Then, there's unemployment. Quite a few people are unemployed in the United States. I'm not saying that it's bad that we're going overseas to support China, but we need some more jobs for the United States. Unemployed people can't afford to buy much, which potentially leads to stores shutting down.
Mr. Obama, I think you'll do well and I hope that you try your best. Please, try to really change this nation and fix the economy.
Thanks for reading my letter and for supporting the needs of our nation.
Rachel Elizabeth Austin, 11

Dear President-elect Obama,
You will be a great president. I know that being president is a hard job, but I know you can do it. You have an important job, and I know how it is to be under pressure.
I think that the idea of taking the top eight college football teams and putting them in a playoff was a great idea.
It would be a good idea to help out some poor countries on Earth so they won't get angry and start a war. Another idea is to try to stop companies from moving overseas because if more companies keep moving there is a chance that we might end up with a bigger problem.
I just know that you are going to make smart choices. If something is wrong, don't feel down; just keep your head up. I can tell that you are going to make the U.S.A. a better place. Everybody is counting on you.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Level, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I have requests, advice and concerns to share with you. My class is writing to you with great ideas. Please take time to read our letters.
America should go "green" because if everyone in the world lived like Americans do, we wouldn't have enough planets in the solar system to live on. Americans use a huge amount of the Earth's resources.
Please do your best to fix the economic crisis because this is affecting many communities. One way that this might be fixed is if you encouraged companies to move their factories back to the United States. This would bring more money back into our economy and provide more jobs.
Also, please support charity and hospitals to help find cures for illnesses. Make it clear that you support this because it might inspire others to donate. I was glad when I was cured from Kawasaki disease.
Congratulations! You will be a great president!
Sincerely,
Marinna Smith, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
In my view, we should have a smaller government. I think this way because there is no part of our lives unaffected by the government in some way. I also think that there shouldn't be places that do not allow firearms, if you have a concealed carry permit. What if there was a bad guy on a college campus who confronted you alone? If I were old enough, I would want to defend myself.
Next, I'll explain my thoughts about your "share the wealth" plan. People work hard to earn their pay, so why should the people who don't work get the pay? The people who work get cheated. They don't get as much money as they should. If you want to help the poor, you should have local fundraisers or train them for jobs.
I would like to congratulate you for your election now that I have shared my thoughts.
Sincerely,
Priya L. Allen, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I watched you during the elections and enjoyed seeing your singular and vivacious personality. Congratulations on becoming the first black president. My parents and I watched your historic victory speech. Whenever you are on television, you seem warmhearted. Your placid countenance manifests great dedication in your work.
When you are in office, there are a few things I hope you can achieve for my generation. I hope there will be funds for me to go to college. During this economic crisis, I hope there will be enough jobs for my family to be able to keep our home.
I wish you and your lovely family success in the White House. I hope you can achieve your goals and strengthen our economy.

Dear President-elect Obama,
I am very pleased to have an opportunity to write to the leader of our country. I wish felicity to you and your family as you step up to such an important position in life. Everyone wants for America to become a better place to live, and this would be much easier if people could be more affable. A bit of advice is to handle situations very carefully.
I gladly appreciate how much you are trying to help America and I would just like to ask for one simple thing. My request is for North Carolina to receive more attention.
Congratulations on becoming president of the United States. May you have peace. Best wishes.
Sincerely,
Joyce L. Costa, 11

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like for you to bring the soldiers home who are in Iraq. They have feelings, too, and they don't want to be fighting on Christmas; they want to be with their family having a good time. They aren't toy soldiers, they're people.
You should also stop violence. The world should not be a place of fighting, it should be a peaceful and understanding place. Stop the fighting, stop the wars. Settle our differences with other countries and make Earth a better place to live.
Don't stop the war for me, but stop it for all the American citizens and the people who are suffering because their loved ones are dying. It may take time, but I know you can do it because you are a man of power. Soon, you will be President Obama.
I believe in you and I wish you luck with the big task in front of you.
Sincerely,
Jessica T. Mory, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
As a supporter, I congratulate you on becoming president.
I would like to see the war in Iraq end because too many people have been hurt and killed. It would be a relief to see my cousin home safely from the war.
I suggest helping America become more eco-friendly and green. We are hurting our nation without even realizing it, and it makes me sad to see our Earth like this.
To see the financial crisis ended would let Americans everywhere be relieved. I know this task might take years to complete, but I believe you can tackle this a little bit at a time. We families are worrying and we need your help.
I wish you the best of luck and know that you'll be a great president. I support you fully. Please remember that.
Sincerely,
Camille Prairie, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on winning the 2008 election. I encourage you to do your best when you get in the White House in 2009. I cannot wait until January 20 when you become America's first African American president.
I know you can help change the United States by making it more eco-friendly as well as taking all of the troops out of Iraq. Imagine all of the families that would be reunited. You could help the environment by using solar and wind energy instead of fossil fuels.
Sincerely,

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to congratulate you on your prodigious win in the 2008 presidential election. This is the first election that I followed closely, and I'm very pleased with the outcome. My family and I are Democrats, so none of us can wait for the oath of office on January 20, 2009. I know that you will make the right changes, and our country will be a better place.
I do have a few requests. I think that we should start the process of pulling troops out of Iraq. My step-mom just got back from the Congo yesterday. She told me all about the poverty, violence, and out-of-control wildlife. I think that we should pay more attention to these problems.
I also have some advice for you. Just do what feels right, and remember, whatever you do, someone won't agree with it.
Sincerely,
Dylan Erickson, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to congratulate you on your presidential campaign. I am sure that you were the best choice for leader of the United States of America.
I would like to encourage you to do your best in office. I also think we should be less dependent on China. If we were, all of the jobs wouldn't go overseas and fewer people would lose their jobs. We should still buy some items from China, but not as many.
I would like for you to send our troops back from Iraq. It will save money and many lives will be saved.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday.
Sincerely,
Latifa Aboeid, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on winning the election.
My name is Lauren and I'm writing this letter to tell you about some concerns I have about our country. My biggest concern is the environment because we only have one planet. I was wondering if you could make two laws; one is to make all cars use 25 m.p.g. or more so you won't waste gas. My second suggestion is to make it a law to recycle to reduce landfills.
My other second concern is the economy. A lot of people are losing their jobs, so I think that you should invest in clean energy and create more jobs. I believe this could help our country.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Lauren Questell, 10
P.S. My family voted for you.

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on getting elected as president. My entire family wanted you to win. I am a strong supporter of you, and all of my family believes you will do a fantastic job. We know that you won't let us down.
I have a request for you. It's a simple request: Please don't send more soldiers to Iraq. My cousin was out there, and I didn't like it one bit. I know how it must be for other people, so that's the reason for my request.
I would love to give some advice. You may not listen, but our economy is very dependent on China. I, being a 10-year-old girl, cannot change that, but if we were less dependent on China, more people would have jobs and things would work.
Sincerely,
Jada Lockhart, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I congratulate you on becoming our nation's forty-fourth president.
Please don't send any more of our troops to Iraq. We are getting more in debt, and many families are losing loved ones. I think that would help our economy a lot. If they attack us again, we should go right back over there. But that's just my opinion, and I'm just a kid. You make the decisions, not me.
Also, I'm the kid that you met in D.C. on the floor of the House of Representatives that day. I certainly hope to see you again sometime in the future.
I believe that you can be a great president.
Sincerely,
Andrew Burton, 11

Dear President-elect Obama,
I have a request for you. I think that you should leave three to five hundred troops in Iraq just in case something bad happens. Then you should bring the rest back so they can return to their families and become safe and happy.
I have some advice for you. I think you should take people's requests and put them together to make one brilliant plan. The plan should boost education, safety, health, and the economy. Then you should work on that plan, and we will be happy.
Great job on winning the election against Senator McCain and the other candidates. I think you can become a great president. You made history on being the first African American president ever. Wonderful!
Sincerely,
Annie Xie, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on becoming the new president of the United States of America. I look forward to your term in office, but I just want to let you know that I am against abortion, embryonic stem-cell research, etc. I advise you to try to do a better job than our last president because many people have become widows because of his decisions.
I request that the brave soldiers fighting in Iraq return home because their friends and family miss them and many have died already.
Many people believe in you and are behind you in every decision that you face.
Sincerely,
Kyler Skipper, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on your recent victory against Senator McCain. I was very excited when I heard that you had won the election because I thought you would make a great president. You are a father of two and understand how families feel.
I enjoyed watching your speeches on television because you'd tell about change and how you would make things happen. But one thing that really caught my attention was your saying that you would bring the soldiers home. Although I know this won't be done immediately, I know it will be done during your presidency.
I saw on television that you were getting a puppy. I hope you take good care of it as I know you and your family will.
Just know that your country and I are depending on you as our president. Good luck!
Sincerely,
Megann Southworth, 11

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on becoming president-elect! I voted for you and I was so excited when I heard that you had won. I'm proud to have you as our president.
My friend, Brittany, has a dad in the Army and he just recently came home. I'm not sure if he's still at home or if he left for the Army again. She had to move to Raleigh. I forget why, but I believe it had something to do with her Dad. Anyways, could you bring him and other troops home, at least for the holidays?
As some advice for you, don't let the tax prices go any higher, and please lower taxes on items here. In Pennsylvania, they only tax half the items that are taxed in North Carolina. Something needs to be done about that. Remember, you have a lot of power now. Don't misuse it.
Sincerely,
Rachel Sloneker, 10

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
May I start out by congratulating you on your success in the recent election.
I suggest that you bring the soldiers home from Iraq because they haven't seen their families in a very long time. Also, many soldiers have died and if we keep them there, even more will die!
I would like to request that you lower the tax price. I request this because many people are upset about the cost of taxes. If you cannot lower the price, I suggest that you keep it the same because if you raise the price, then people will become angry and upset, and that wouldn't be good.
Congratulations, and good luck.
Sincerely,
Jamie Cochran, 11

Dear President-elect Obama,
As I suppose you know, we aren't living in the most eco-friendly world. I have a few suggestions.
Do you remember the drought we had recently? You could do something like not using so much water, like we did then. People don't have to do this unless they want to, but hopefully someone will listen to you.
I have other ideas, but I have a limit on words. You probably have some ideas, anyway.
Remember, what you decide could change the world.
Sincerely,
Bailey McRae, 10

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would just like to start by saying congratulations on winning the election.
As you know, we are currently having a war in Iraq. I would like it if you could take troops out of Iraq because there are people here that love them too much to see them die. So, if you could please bring them home, I would be very happy.
I am also worried that the United States isn't the most eco-friendly country. Maybe if we cut down on pollution and maybe sell more solar powered cars at a lower price, that would help. If you think about it, why should we have to pay more for doing something nice and pay less for doing something bad? Also, if we use solar powered cars, we won't have to pay for imported gas.
Finally, I just want to say I encourage you to stick with it.
Sincerely,
Lemar Martin, 11

Dear President-elect Obama,
I'm glad that you've been elected the next president. I also congratulate you for being selected as  "Person of the Year."
As the new president, I think that you should work on the unemployment rate in this country. Many people are unemployed, homeless, and unable to pay for what they need. If possible, I'd also like to ask you to make cities safe and clean.
I hope you'll agree that the soldiers in Iraq need to come home. The people fighting are wounded, sick, and lonely. My Mom has told me that God doesn't want us to kill each other. He wants us all to live in harmony.
I believe that the years with you as president will be the most successful and improved for U.S. citizens. Knowing that you are in control, I'm sure that you will take advantage of this amazing opportunity.
Sincerely,
Abby Sayers, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Hi! I want to congratulate you and Joe Biden on your recent presidential election and for being elected for "Person of the Year."  I think you will make a great president because you have two adorable young children, and they can tell you what most kids want.
I would like soldiers to come home because I think it's really sad that people in our country are dying because of the war. Also, many families have lost their loved ones. We are deeply in debt because of war expenses and there are many poor families and foster homes in desperate need. I think you need to put extra money towards them.
Some advice is that you shouldn't follow President Bush's advice because no one liked him. Also remember, "Yes, we can!"
Sincerely,
Lauren Coltrane, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations on being elected president. I am sure that you will be a great president. I was wondering if you could carry out my requests:
#1. Could you stop the war in Iraq? We are losing a lot of money and soldiers for this war. It would prevent us from losing money and soldiers, and the families of the soldiers would be happy.
#2. Could you ask Congress to make eco-friendly laws such as littering in a public place is a fine? Or saying that all cars should be powered by some sort of renewable energy source? Or saying that you have to pay for plastic bags at any shop?
#3. Is there a way that you could help the economy? This would help the entire world. If our economy goes down, then the entire world's economy goes down. In the same way, if our economy were to go up, then the entire world's economy would go up, too. Therefore, our economy should go up.
Sincerely,
Ritika Anandwade, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to congratulate you on your new victory of being president starting in 2009. Also, I would like to congratulate you for being the first African American president.
I would like you to send the soldiers home so they can rest and be with their families. Could you also keep this place happy so everybody can be happy and our next generation can be happy, too? I also think if you want to borrow money from the bank, you can borrow a lot of money as long as you pay it back. If you don't pay it back, you have to go to jail.
Please let the soldiers come back home to see their families.
Congratulations, again, and have a great time being president of the United States. Good luck. You have lots of responsibility for the U.S.A.
Sincerely,
Sahana Maravarman, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I would like to congratulate you for being elected. I believe you will do well with international relationships. You are a great speaker. I know you will do well at being president.
I wish that you could end the war and not bring us into war unless absolutely necessary. I hate war, not only because it wastes money, but mostly because it takes lives. I also think that you should be more aware of the eco-system. There are plenty of things that you can do to help save the environment. You could lower prices on eco-friendly cars.
Thank you so much for reading my letter. When times get tough, remember, "Yes, you can!"
Sincerely,
Rachel Beardsley, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
I will give you some suggestions on how you can make America a better place. I'll start with children's education. Many teachers are struggling to teach children everything they need to know. I think that we need to make school days a bit longer.
Also, it is very important that we keep American soldiers in Iraq. If we just bring all of the soldiers back to America, then the terrorists may come into our country and create an even larger war on U.S. soil. This is why it is crucial to keep American soldiers in Iraq.
I know that you'll do a great job of keeping America the best it can be. You have done an amazing job of campaigning, and I know that Americans voted for you because they saw a great leader in you.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Gold, 11

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think it would be wise to get the U. S. troops out of Iraq as soon as possible. The Iraq war is costing the U.S. trillions of dollars every year. If this war stops, the U.S. can get out of debt.
While you are president, I would like to ask you to move more money to developing more environmentally friendly technologies. If you do this, the U.S. can be less dependent on imported oil.
You have my best hopes as president. Have the best of luck.
Sincerely,
Thomas Lawe, 11

Dear President-elect Obama,
I think that you should stop sending jobs away to China and other places just because it is cheaper. I also think that you should make more jobs for the people who don't have any jobs here. The most important issue, in my opinion, is that we should stop polluting. America alone is wasting about 23% of the resources of the world.
I think that the schools should have more time for learning math because in almost every job, you will find that it has something to do with math. We should have more of every subject.
I'm very happy that you won the election.
Sincerely,
William Brower, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
Congratulations! I am proud to say that I voted for you in "Kids Voting." I cannot wait until 2009! I think that you will do an excellent job in the White House.
With your help, the people of the United States can try to make this country a better place to live. Please try to help people get enough food to eat and be able to go to the doctor when they are sick. I also want to see our country become more eco-friendly. We need to clean up our environment and find substitutes for oil.
I know that you cannot just stop the war, but I do hope that you will see what you can do to end it.
As one of your proud supporters, I wish you luck for the upcoming years of being president of the United States.
Sincerely,
Amelia Gilchrist, 10

Dear President-elect Obama,
This is such a big year because since you are African American. People even in a hundred years will look up to you. You are already popular because my Mom and Dad voted for you. I couldn't choose between you and Mr. McCain, so I just voted for Bob Barr.
When you are president, try not to go to other countries and give speeches because they might do to you what they did to President Bush a couple of days ago (throw shoes). We could prevent that from happening by making friends with other countries.
I hope that you will make our country better than it is now by making more tools for police to track criminals, lowering gas prices, and making understandable laws.
Sincerely,
Hank Moss, 10

* * * * * * * *

Dear President-elect Obama,
I have lots of advice for you. I think we need a decrease in imports and an increase in exports. Please try to lower taxes as much as possible while still paying for government services. Most people don't like wars, so ally us with as many countries as possible.
If we have to fight wars, I've come up with three good strategies as possibilities. One is the pincer movement. You attack from two sides to split the enemy. Another is underground tunneling which has three purposes. One is to mine resources. Another is to bomb from under buildings. The last is that if you have really good tunnels, you can set up an ambush. The third strategy is weakening your opponent's numbers and morale.
All of this may be overwhelming on its own. Don't forget to be a good father to your daughters.
Sincerely,
Patrick Blaha, 9

Dear President Obama,
I am writing to thank you for having the courage to never give up! No matter how hard things on the election trail had gotten, you never lost your temper. I knew from day one you were the right person for the job. On November 5, 2008, thousands of all races, creeds and backgrounds came together and stood as one nation. I have never in my life seen anything like it. President Obama, you made me a better person and gave me the encouragement to go back to college. I hope one day I can give the same hope to our country as you did. I wish you and your family all the best.
May God bless and keep you.
Jamall M. Grice

Dear President Obama,
You have won a mighty charge. Like Jason, your pursuit of the Golden Fleece is a recognition of the need for legitimate power to bring order back to an America that is losing a sense of identity and compassion. You have been awarded amazing gifts of perception and leadership. My concerns are the traps that could paralyze your pursuit. Your gifts of power include personal power, financial power and the power of position. The power of position and financial power can cause us to lose our way if our sacred inner space isn't consulted. External authority is no good without internal and loving authority. This God space authority spurs us not to give up when we don't see immediate results There are so many programs that have been started out of a sense of compassion but became "politicized" rather than run with loving authority (mental health reform, No Child Left Behind, living wages.) Revitalization of these issues will connect us rather than stratify the layers of society even further. I wish you Godspeed.

I watched in awe Barack Obama's speech at the Democrate Convention eight years ago. As I listened, I knew within my heart that he would become president of our great country. He is a man of integrity. He has been blessed with a wonderful wife and two beautiful children. I wait with great antipation as he accepts the presidency of the United States of America. I am an 81-year-old woman, and I am happy to be to witnessing history in the making.

Dear Mr. President-elect,
My name is Peter Moll Wal and I am a 48-year-old father of four from Papua New Guinea, a Pacific Island country north of Australia. There are other Pacific Island countries within the Pacific region. You may not know my country, Papua New Guinea, and its people but we are very much proud of you winning the presidential election. You have won convincingly against all odds, first against Hillary Clinton, and then John McCain and the Republican party machine looked like second fiddlers. You have tremendous spirit to stay the course.
Mr. President, you have grown up in the Pacific Island state of Hawaii and do understand that the Pacific Islands have beautiful people, mountains, forest, rivers, ocean, beaches, etc. However, this is dying out fast due to exploitation by countries/companies with money.
As the incoming president of the United States of America and the free world, I do sincerely request that you must also focus your attention on the little Pacific Island countries to save the resources from further exploitation by countries/companies with big money.
Thank you Mr. President.
May God richly bless you and your wonderful family.
Peter Moll Wal, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

I did not vote for you or McCain because I did not like either one of you. I hope the people unerstand a lot of what the parties promise can't be done without the Congress' permission. I hope for all the people that voted for you don't get a big let down. You have made some promises that the people like and you will break their hearts when they don't come true. I did not like Bush either and he has made a mess of the country; that left big shoes for you to fill. I just hope you are up for the long road ahead for the people that voted for you. I wish you the best of luck because you are going to need it after Bush steps down.

Dear Mr. President-elect,
You have run your campaign on "hope," "change," and "looking to the future"; all I ask from you, sir, is in the following years, you stick to these words and not blame President Bush for any obstacles that may come your way. As a Republican, I have been utterly offended and disappointed at the lack of respect shown to our president over the past 8 years and I ask that you not fan the fire that has already been brewing. Though I did not vote for you, I intend to show you the amount of respect that is to be shown to our great nation's leaders, and I ask that you show that same amount to Mr. Bush and not continue to look backwards, by placing blame, but to continue moving forward to better our country. Thank you.
Sincerely,

We had our three children come up with some ideas for President Obama:
"Please help the endangered animals. My favorite is the panda."
 Caroline Howard, 6
"Please give money to schools and libraries because I love school and reading so much. Also, please protect the rainforests because there are many nice animals that live there. My favorite is the monkey."
 Lauren Howard, 8
"I hope you make 32 special days in the year to celebrate the 32 NFL teams. On each of the 32 days, fans of each team dress up on their team's day. Also, as an 11-year-old, I read the Greensboro newspaper. I seem to see reports of at least one crime a day. I am shocked to see all the crimes happening here. Therefore I would like you to do what you can to reduce the crime rate here and everywhere else."

Dear Mr. President,
It's an honor to write this message to a man with great honor and zeal, full of hunger to bring change for the better to the United States of America. First, I'd like to say you're the man for the job. I'll speak for myself and other Americans throughout the nation of having full confidence in my mind and spirit that you will succeed to the uttermost highest level of your goal for this country. If there's ever been a president I've had my focus on, it's you, Mr. President Obama. You'll have my prayers. And I know God will be by your side.
Jimmy Hundley Jr., 48

I would like to start out by saying the Constitution of the United States clearly starts out as "We the People of the United States of America."It seems the last 8 years President Bush has forgotten those words. Now that we have a new president, I hope he reads those words carefully because "We the People of the United States of America" are tired of bailing out the big corporations. It's time that we the people were bailed out If you want to keep the American dream alive, bail us out. Give us the money, not Wall Street or the three giants. In your own words, we need to jump start the economy. Well, in order to do so, we need to start purchasing items such as cars or what have you and we cannot do that because our jobs have been taken away from us. Bail us out and we will jump start the economy overnight!! President Obama, "We the People of the United States of America" are calling out for help. Don't turn a deaf ear to us.
Sincerely,
Susan McAlexander, 41

Dear Mr. President,
A useful guiding principle to keep in mind as you face the formidable task of president of the United States might be the puppy paradigm. Generally speaking, a world that is dog friendly is also a world that is people friendly.
What things make for a happy dog? Consistent and loving discipline, sufficient amounts of healthful food, clean water, exercise, play and a home free of fear. That pretty much goes for humans, as well, excepting our need to be useful and exercise our creativity. When there is freedom from fear, there is no need for aggression. Perfect trust casts out all fear.
America sorely needs a new leash on life and an unfailing moral compass to guide her steps. You could do a lot worse than to take the lead in helping to create a dog- and people-friendly world.
Connie Ralston, 60

* * * * * * * *

Dear Mr. Obama,
I offer these guiding principles that should influence every policy and decision of your administration:
Be a class act and demand the same of your party. Protect the original foundations of America. Seek and accept God's guidance on ALL issues. He and He alone can sustain America. Which atheistic or Muslim, or Hindu, or Buddhist nation would we want to become? Move from crippling "political correctness" to "compassionate truth." Avoid a tax policy that creates a new class for discrimination - namely the rich. God's example of 10% for EVERYONE is ultimate fairness. Eliminate our nation's debt. Protect our country with an unsurpassed national defense. Remove any dependence on other nations for critical services or products.
My prayers are with you as you are entrusted with leadership of the greatest nation on Earth.
Janice Wangard, 60

Dear Mr. Obama,
I'm writing on behalf of all ex-cons in North Carolina (regardless of race). I'm rather lucky because I do have a full-time job (sorta). I make $8 an hour 36 to 38 hours a week. I pay over $400 in child care (not child support because it takes more than money to support a child, like time and guidance). Child support is the great escape not to do nothing else for the child but pay that money or go to jail (wow, what support). My rent is $400 a month, not to mention Duke Power and gas bill. Food stamp says I make too much but my child's mom gets over $400 in food stamps. I try to get a part-time job and Burger King and KFC want a background check and refuse to hire me because of something I done when I was a child (18). I served my time (1990-2002), but I am still being punished.
Mr. President, we (ex-cons) need some type of program or the repeat offenders program (recidivism) will only continue to grow! A man has to take care of his family some way. If there's no honest work, there's plenty of dirty work ... and 9 out of 10 times, someone innocent pays the deadly price. Please stop the madness. We (ex-cons) don't need a hand-out, just a hand up (work).
Thank you,
K. Shawn, 39

Dear Mr. President,
Congratulations on becoming our 44th president. Here's wishing you and your family the very best!
Government must run like a business or our children won't have a future; therefore, starting with "fair tax," to include property tax, should be top priority, so everyone pays their fair share. Otherwise, this is discrimination against taxpayers!
You've inherited a depressed economy that's trickled down to working people. Government's out of control! "Change" is needed! Taxpayers understood you wanted less government. Creating jobs and spending billions for infrastructures creates bigger government. Infrastructures shouldn't take place until furniture and other manufacturing jobs are back in America. Nafta, Cafta and the politicians who helped create "the selling of America - one job at a time" should be given a one-way ticket across the ocean with nothing but the clothes on their backs, as everything else belongs to taxpayers!

Mr. President,
It appears at this writing (12/21/08) your Cabinet and other appointments are wisely chosen for experience and expertise. Now implement without delay the changes we so desperately need in the economic sector. FDR did it to get us out of the last Great Depression and we pray you can deliver as thoroughly and quickly. In the first eight days, he declared a national bank holiday, cut the federal budget $500 million, and by the 11th day, the stock market soared 15 percent. These might not be the specific actions current times demand, but the point is, we need your quick response to a situation worsening daily. And we need stringent controls on unions. The UAW was content to scuttle the auto industry - the very industry it was supposed to protect - rather than agree to a compromise for the good of the country.
Leo Derrick, 81

Dear Mr. President,
I congratulate you for reaching the most important and most responsible office in the world. I am frightened at the way America has embraced a culture of death mostly represented by an escalating war on unborn babies. What will you do to streamline this country back to a culture of life that respects all human life? We're counting on you; you're the man!
Matthew Thekkekandam, 67

My message is, instead of helping those who have ripped off the poor, who have worked hard and then to lose their jobs, housing. No way to pay for heat, buy groceries, go to a doctor and try to get treated, no medical insurance. Put the money out there for them.
Look at what Aig has done, thievery at its best. America is now like a foreign country.
Again, thanks to those in Washington. Stop giving away money for protection for those whose time has ended up there, as well. Let them live on what we have to try to survive on. They can spend their own money for that. Already made millionaires, before they go in, and still abusing their powers , after they are voted in.
God bless America again.

President-elect Obama,
First let me congratulate you.
I will do my best to support you.
In years past and in your quest for this position, many have said they wanted to do what was best for this great country of ours. You stated that you wanted to, or will, cut out government waste. Many have said that before, but the reality is that most allowed more pork barrel spending than can be imagined. If you truly mean what you have said, please start immediately asking for line item veto. that is the only way any one man and that man in your position can effectively reduce government waste. once elected, officials should divorce themselves from their party, and do what is best for this great country. be a true soldier and defend the whole United States of America. After all we are "ONE NATION UNDER GOD."
Please be assured that I will continue to pray for your un-biased leadership.
Sincerely,
Robert G. Hege

Mr. President-elect,
You should get rid of the entire public school system. The price we pay for fuel, maintenance and drivers alone on buses is outrageous. Think of this, no matter the size of the school. It costs the same to heat it whether there are 200 kids or 400 kids. We don't even pay the right amount for teachers, so we as a country have a terrible record when put on a national scale. Let the private sector take over the schools following governmental guide lines. Private schools will want your kids' business and will earn it by showing you, the parent, that they have the best qualified teachers. Give a tax credit comparable to the price of a private school. This way the government saves money. There will be no variables. The price per kid is what it is. The government should be overseers and protectors. Do not bail out anyone. People will still need their vehicles worked on. Someone will buy there companies even if it's for pennies. That's the way it is in America. Sink or swim, and no one deserves special treatment.
Brandon Kay, 42

Dear Mr. President-elect Barack Obama,
Let me say congratulations on the super great campaign you ran and also congratulations on your election to president of our country.
I would like to make a proposal that your economic policy board might consider. Rather than raise taxes on the top 5 percent of tax payers, this bill would allow you to keep most of the commitments you made during your campaign. The money has to come from somewhere, and most people would prefer to buy bonds than to pay higher taxes. The money could be used for most everything except bailouts for mismanaged corporations, banks, etc. The bill would simply be economical recovery bonds and could be handled the same manner that F.D.R. did as he passed the bill for war bonds in World War II to finance two world wars. I believe under your presidency, you have two wars to end, and we know how expensive they can be. The question is where are these funds coming from? As an 83-year-old veteran of World War ii, I know what it is like coming home after the war ended. Times were tough, jobs were hard to find. But we made it "thank the Good Lord".
This proposal has been sent to the following: N.Y. Senator Hillary Clinton, N.C. Senator Kay Hagan, N.C. Rep. Bob Etheridge and N.C. Rep. Mike McIntyre.
Sincerely,
W.E. "Bill" Tyson

Dear Mr. President,
You are a force to be reckoned with. On a scale of 1-100 your score would definitely be 100. Throughout your campaign there were many candidates with great credentials and there were also numerous obstacles that tested your strength and stamina. However, you maintained your cool and calm persona and withstood the test of time. You are as cool as a cucumber and as sharp as a tack.
Everything by the kitchen sink was thrown at you and would have crushed most people's ego and candidacy, but not you. You maintained your cool and continued to stand tall. Mr. President, you have the favour of God, and he is working through you. "If God be for you, who can be against you!"
Never in my lifetime have I seen a man (president-elect) be more admired by people of all ages and by people from all nations of the world than you.
Like Oprah Winfrey said, "You are the one!" Martin Luther King was the dreamer, and you are the dream. Mr. President, I salute you for your great accomplishments and hope you serve 8 great years in the White House. Change has come to America.

President Barack Obama:
Congratulations on becoming our 44th president!
It is of great pleasure and worthy opportunity to write a letter to the president of the United States of America.

Mr. President, you are a man of strength, a man of courage, a man of vision. A man of humility and integrity. These are just a few of the characteristics that you process. Thank you for being you!
Peace and Love!

Congratulations, and you got my vote, therefore I feel that I did my part. So now I hope that you will do yours, and there are a lot of issues that we all need fixed.
One that involves everyone from young to old is our health care - that needs a total overhaul.
#1 - Policy rates are too expensive.
#2 - Deductibles shouldn't exist.
#3 - Medical doctors and specialist visits too expensive.
#4 - Emergency medical center walk-ins too expensive.
#5 - Hospital emergency room visits too expensive.
#6 - Hospital stays too expensive.
#7 - Physicians are overpaid.
#8 - Any medical attention provided is too expensive.
#9 - Prescription medicines have unpredictable costs.
If all these issues were reasonable we all would be taking better care of ourselves and wouldn't be second-guessing our health and seek the medical attention we need, with coverage at a peace of mind.
So, if you and your aides will put the cost last and the care first, that will put the gouging to rest.
Teddy Sparks, 51

Dear Mr. President,
The most pressing need we all have is punctual mail delivery.  The U.S. mail system is broken; two days was once the norm - now it's the exception. Please, let's get back to the norm.

President-elect Obama,
My idea does not involve giving billion to auto makers or banks. Those people already have fat pockets. There are thousands of cars that cannot be sold now because we have no money, no credit. Making more at our expense is stupid.
You give every man, woman and child a tax free $1,000,000 and we can pay for our homes, buy a new car, buy clothes, appliances and food.
That will save your economy - our having money to spend.
Giving banks and car makers more and more gives their CEOs money out of our pocket and we are still broke, homeless and hungry.

I would like to say to the president-elect that I have confidence that you would hold true to your campaign promises and run an honest and above-board administration and get rid of partisan bickering (I like your administration picks also) and illegal business interests payoffs.
I am a 40-year retiree from the post office (union member) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and a lifelong Democrat who moved to North Carolina 10 years ago for family reasons and found here a Jesse Helms ("Senator No!") mentality, which I never understood.
Mr. President, I was shocked and pleased that you won North Carolina.
P.S. Please end our participation in foreign wars and bring our troops home (a 6-year Navy veteran in Korean War).

Dear Mr. President,
Many generations ago, my grandfather Williams landed here from England on the Mayflower. He came to find freedom to worship God. What a sad U.S.A. we have now! We have lost God, who still loves us, but we do not accept that love.
When you get in office, Mr. President Obama, please guide us back to a higher power. We need prayer in our schools. We need people back in our churches. We need prayer in the White House every day. God bless America again!

To the President-elect,
Sir, I am just a country boy from West Virginia, and I know I belong to God because he made me and you; we must obey God in everything. To serve him and no other, we need to put God back in America. That is the only way we will receive the blessing from God. Please put God first in what you do, and he will direct you and make this country a blessing again. America is still standing strong, but we somehow took God out of everything. You must understand that the future of America rests on you and putting God first.
Thank you. God bless you and your family

To President-elect Barack Obama and family,
We would like to congratulate you and your family for being elected as our 44th president and first lady. You will have a very difficult but equally rewarding job in office. We wish you God's blessings.
We would like to send you these words of encouragement from an article that I write for a monthly newsletter at my job at the Reidsville Police Department. It's called Alexander's Corner. From the Thompson Chain Reference Bible (KJV) Proverbs 3:5,6:
5. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Once again we wish you God's speed and blessings. We will be praying for you.
Llewellyn and Clara Williams,

Dear President-elect Barack Obama,
As you get prepared to be the president of the United States of America, I wish you all the luck. The road will be long, your climb will be steep. You may not get there in one year or even one term, but whatever you do you will overcome.
Annie Davis, age 85

Dear President Obama,
How are you? Get some rest before Jan. 20, 2009. Today is my last day teaching pre-K and kindergarten classes at Washington Montessori Elementary School in Greensboro, N.C. I've taught for 35 years. I've taught preschool in Japan in 1974-77 when my husband served in the Air Force for 20 years. After retirement he worked as a manager of DMV until his tragic death in  December 1994. My daughter Evelyn is married (11 years now). She is a travel agent. She lives in Charlotte, N.C. She and her husband voted for you. We believe in you! We are so proud of you! We know change will come slowly. Let me know how I can help you. My suggestions for change in our country are:
A. Improve education in our schools.
B. Bring our men and women home from war torn countries. "Let there be peace on Earth."
C. Stop crime and homelessness in our neighborhoods.
D. Repair our economy!
God bless you and your family. I am so proud of you, President Obama. You represent all people, not just black people. I thank God I lived to see a black president who will change our country and make it a great country to live in once again.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Simms

Dear President Obama,
I would like to see a program for men AND women coming out of prison. They can't get any jobs if they have a felony or any kind of crime. What they did was wrong, but they are still human beings. The ones that want to make a change in their life, give them a chance. When they can't find work, they go back out in society and steal and kill just to make ends meet. As people of the United States, this problem needs to change. Some kind of a work program for them once they are out. To get back on their feet. Please give this some serious thought. You have a lot to do with the world in this shape. I have you and your family in my prayers each and every day. God bless!
Betty Donnell

Dear President Obama,
Congratulations and best wishes are sent your way. Thank you for dedicating the next four years to lead our great country. We hope you enjoy your time in the White House. Although there are many expectations and responsibilities as president, we hope you and your family take time to enjoy the history of our forefathers around you and look forward to making history as well.
In one debate you mentioned "no one is pro-abortion" and that union of man and woman is "sacred." It is my hope and the hope of many that as president you act on those words. Please, President Obama, protect the unborn. They are our weakest and without a voice. But their hearts are beating. Please bring a change to our country. Please protect the lives brought forth from that "sacred" union. I believe you can try.
God Bless,
Allison Strafaci

Dear Mr. President,
Slavery in this country was followed by segregation and the brutal acts that came along with it, just for being a black person in America. Conversely, now as citizens of the United States, we are in a new era! You are the 44th president of the United States! Unlike most black Americans whose African descent is over 400 years old, your Kenyan African descent is only one generation back. Mr. President, you represent the struggle that blacks have endured. Moreover, you represent the Marcus Garvey era, Martin Luther King Jr. era, the Harriet Tubman era and many more that can be named who paved the way for us. Consequently, this is the great power of God who can do ANYTHING! May God bless you, President Barack Obama, Michelle, Malia and Sasha.
Sincerely,
LaTaurus D. Exum

Mr. Barack Obama,
You are a great person, a man who will be a great president! You have the ability to be successful in achieving all your goals. With a wonderful wife and two beautiful children, all of you project success, intelligence, fitness, family values and religion that will allow you to set a focus on setting a great value for America. Calmness is one of your best aspects. You are a quiet person that is curious, determined and wants the bottom line to any question. The world is lucky to have you as an upcoming leader. We have a winner!

Dear Mr. President Obama,
I read in the Greensboro newspaper and I saw you on TV talking about you are having a hard time giving up smoking. Have you ever asked God to help you to quit? I used to smoke 3 packs a day. I asked God to help me and He did. Gold told me to repent and I did. See Acts 2:38. God came into my heart and gave me the gift of His spirit, the Holy Ghost, and he took away the taste. There is hope. You don't have to keep falling off the wagon. Have you received the New Birth? John 3: 6-7, 11. Timothy 3:16, Ephesians 4: 21-24. Philippians 4:13.
God bless you and your family. I am praying for you all in the powerful name of Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:18.
A servant of Jesus Christ,
Edith White, age 62

Dear Mr. President,
Attention Barack Obama:
This letter come to you to a man that I am proud to have as president of the U.S.
One thing, please don't ride in an open-top vehicle. Please play it safe. I know you have a lot of faith, but faith can only go so far.
Next, please make better relationships with the rest of the world. Bush has lost a lot of our friends.
Please stop the war in Iraq. Bring our boys and girls home.
We need Cuba as a friend and neighbor, not an enemy.
I am a Republican, but I voted for you.
Your friend,
George Jenkins, Jr., age 84

Dear President-elect Obama,
I voted for you, and I do pray you will do everything in your power to keep your promises. You see the major problem with America is we have gotten away from God and His word. There is absolutely no way his country will survive without putting God first. The answers for all of life's troubles are in the Bible. Seek God's will in the decisions you make regarding this country. You will be glad you did.
Also, we must be a friend to Israel or we will experience God's wrath, as Iraq is today.
Happy New Year and be blessed.
Sincerely,
Jackie Stockard, age 54

Dear Mr. President,
Let's bring our troops home. We should put them on our own streets. It would help the crime level decrease. Having our troops on the street could send a good influence to young people growing up. They would make us feel safer, and we would make them feel proud. We will support and pray for you and the United States of America.
Sincerely,
Brady Johnson, age 11

Dear President Obama,
I have worked with elderly patients for 29 years. My wish for them is for you to see if more money could be found for them.
Each month they receive $66 for their spending money. Out of that $66 they have to pay for their medication and such items as clothing. Other personal items that they need have to wait until the next month. No patient should have to live like that. These patients have worked their whole life. They have put their time in. These patients deserve the best that life has to offer.
Thank you so much.
Darlene Galloway, age 50

Dear Mr. President,
Although I will not be in Washington, D.C., the day you take your oath in person, I will be there in spirit and prayer. It is an honor and pleasure to write a few lines of encouragement to you. I have kept up with you from day one. I am so proud of our president-elect and pray for you and your family each day.
My advice to you is to keep God always first in life and on this road. Be true and honest to God and He will lead and guide you and be with you. You are in the prayers of the people all over the world. God's protections are also with you. Thank God for the choice of the people. We love you, and we can make a change.

I have not heard anything about the concern for senior citizens. We are all struggling one way or another trying to make ends meet. It is thousands of senior citizens on fixed income, can't eat the right kinds of foods, take over-the-counter medicine and other things. With the cost of everything today, our checks only go so far. I just wanted to know, what about senior citizens? I have not heard anything about us directly. Please give me an answer.
Thanks,
Mrs. Mary Newby, 70

Honorable Sir:
I congratulate you and am looking forward to your new administration with anticipation and trepidation.
I commend you on selecting people of sterling character, we hope, along with intelligence. Their resumes sound exceptional, and we pray they have a little humility along with their abundant egos. Confidence is important, but arrogance can be a dangerous thing, and a little old-fashioned wisdom should be an important balance.
Forgive my hubris in writing to caution you, but this senior citizen is concerned about the future of the United States of which we are so proud. We are distressed and disturbed by the corruption that abounds and so many people are tainted. I know you are trying to get a team to help change the way government works. Character and integrity are old-fashioned words that have disappeared in the political arena, Wall Street, and Main Street, but as your grandmother would say, "Don't let power and superiority go to your head." Thomas Friedman said that we need an ethics revolution. We hope that you are going to start it.
I am rooting for you and for us, the citizens of the United States. Best wishes.
Very truly yours,
Deborah Schandler
 Dear Mr. President-elect,
I voted for you because of one reason and one reason only - because you promised to get us out of Iraq. But I see your in-planning administration is already having second thoughts. The so-called "progress" in Iraq is an illusion! As soon as we are out and the so-called "green zone" ends, things will go back to the "usual", i.e. more bombs, more killings and more battles among the various groups. In short, we have accomplished nothing and the same will happen in Afghanistan.
When are we going to start minding our own business and stop trying to impose our system, our democracy and our life philosophy on others? Shame on our administrations, Republican and Democrat!
From a disappointed voter,
Helio Salvador

 Dear President-elect Obama,
Thank you for running for president. Thanks for being the first African American president. I'm African American, too. When I get older, I'll be reading about you in the history books. How did your children feel when you were elected? Imagine if I walked in school and people were cheering because my dad was elected! Tell Vice President-elect Biden I said thank you, too.
A Democratic friend,
Nia Lipford

Dear Mr. Obama,
What an honor and a pleasure to be given this opportunity that would only, could hardly happen only once in one's given lifetimes.
To you, Mr. Obama, I offer my heartiest congratulations. Only in America could a man such as yourself achieve all that you have. Now you are given a great purpose.
Run with your thoughts, your ideas, your readiness to make this our world, our nation, all nations come together to try, yes try and then recognize that we are all in this together.
Yes, we can, we will claim the victory. No one, nobody left behind.
It won't be easy, Mr. Obama, but you've made great strides already. I believe in your fairness. I believe in those you have chosen to be accountable, not only to your administration, your trust, our country but to themselves.  Great heartfelt love for our country, our world in the new year and beyond.
Most sincerely and affectionately,
Ms. Betty Parker, age 63
