(Updated 3:00 am)

Poblano's Mexican Bar and Grill (3900-A Battleground Ave., Greensboro; 282-4800) has taken over Wholly Guacamole.

Adel Ghalyoun, David Romero and Jerry Rose own the new restaurant. They also own Poblano's Mexican Bar and Grill locations at Adam's Farm Shopping Center and Friendly Center. Ghalyoun also owns Venice Pizza and Poblano's on North Elm Street in downtown Greensboro.

Ghalyoun says the Battleground location will offer the same traditional Mexican and Tex Mex menu as its sister locations, including Poblano's signature burritos -- such as Burrito al Pastor ($8.95) stuffed with pork marinated in guajillo chili sauce and pineapple and Burrito Caliente ($8.95) stuffed with grilled chicken and chipotle sauce -- and an assortment of seafood dishes.

Kids eat free Monday through Wednesday with the purchase of an adult entree, and a 15 percent discount is offered on menu items on Sunday for people who bring in a church bulletin.

Live music by Gary Woodard is offered every Saturday night.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Pizza restaurant plans move

Pieworks is moving.

After nearly 17 years at 3700 Lawndale Drive in Greensboro, Pieworks Pizza by Design, one of the first gourmet pizza restaurants to open in the area, is moving to a new site under construction at 1941 New Garden Road.

The location is the only franchise in North Carolina for the Louisiana-based chain, but the restaurant is looking for new franchise opportunities in Greensboro, High Point and Burlington.

Coffeehouse has new owner

Katie Southard is a familiar face behind the counter at The Green Bean (341 S. Elm St., Greensboro; 691-9990), a popular downtown coffeehouse. Now, she's the owner.

After four years of pretty much minding the store, Southard has taken over the shop from longtime owner Pete Schroth.

Schroth opened the coffeehouse in 2002.

Southard says a new coat of paint is about all the change patrons will notice. The Green Bean will continue to host live music and other events.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Restaurant helps the homeless

With the current economic hardships, more and more people are finding themselves in a position to seek the services of area shelters and food banks.

Staff members of Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar (3342 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro) have decided to help by donating all of their gratuities to Greensboro Urban Ministry each Thursday in January.

New Year's Day total was more than $500. Last Thursday's tips netted $700.

So, leave a little extra the next time you are dining at Fleming's on a Thursday. Call 294-7790 for reservations.

Dinner highlights Spain

Vintage 301 (301 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Greensboro), formerly The Press, presents an Evening in Spain Jan. 21.

The four-course menu of Spanish cuisine will be paired with some up-and-coming wines from the region.

Cost for the dinner is $40. Call 333-3190.

Greensboro location closes

Austin's Restaurant on High Point Road in Greensboro has closed. Austin's Restaurant at 2448 N. Main St. in High Point continues to serve patrons and has no plans to close, according to the manager of that location, Bono Hinobezk.
