Greensboro College's Kacie Hyatt, a Southern Guilford product, was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) college division all-state volleyball first team.

An outside hitter, the junior started all 38 games for Greensboro. She had 549 kills, three short of school record and was named first team all-USA South Conference.

Hyatt had 31 kills in an Oct. 11 match against SUNY Oneonta and was a two-time USA South player of the week for The Pride.

Catawba College and Wingate University lead the first team with two selections each. The squad consists of student-athletes from NCAA Division II, Division II, Division III and NAIA colleges and universities throughout the state.

GREENSBORO COLLEGE: Junior Andrew Clark NSCAA was named to the scholar all-American first team.

Clark, a business major, previously earned COSIDA all-academic team honors and NSCAA regional first team honors. Sporting a 3.81 GPA, Clark led The Pride with 25 points on 11 goals and three assists. He was a first team all-USA South performer.

Clark is the 21st Greensboro College student athlete to earn a national academic award. He is the first in men's soccer since Derek Schroll in 1996.

WEAVER LEADS: Drew Weaver of High Point leads after one round of the Carolinas Young Amateur at Pinewild C.C. in Pinehurst. The Virginia Tech senior shot a 7-under 65 to lead by two heading into today's final round.

Greensboro's Kathleen Strandberg is tied for third in the women's division with a 6-over 78.

UNC: The inaugural First Pitch Dinner is scheduled for Jan. 31 at The Carolina Club on the UNC campus.

The featured speaker of the event will be Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona.

The event begins with a 6:30 p.m. social followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Individual tickets cost $75, and tables of eight seated with a UNC player are $600. For more information call (919) 843-6433.
