Boys semifinals

NO. 1 GREENSBORO DAY 58, NO. 4 PAGE 28: What a difference a day makes.

Just 24 hours after running Grimsley out of the gym, Page could find nowhere to turn against Greensboro Day, which will go for its fourth straight Pizza Hut Invitational Title after manhandling the Pirates 58-28 Friday.

Lucas Weavil led 10 Bengals in the scoring column with 15 points, and Brandon Dorsett added 12 as the Bengals went up 17-5 after the first quarter and 30-11 at the half.

Page mustered an 11-4 run out of the halftime locker room, but that was as close as it would get. Mitchell Oates scored 11 points but was the only Pirate with more than four.

Greensboro Day is making its 12th championship game appearance in 16 years and could become the first boys team to win four consecutive titles.

BOYS CONSOLATION

NO. 5 GRIMSLEY 60, NO. 8 SMITH 51: The Whirlies quickly erased memories of Thursday's loss to Page by jumping out to a 16-7 lead after one quarter and a 37-21 edge at the break en route to a berth in the fifth-place game.

"We were ready to come out a little more today because we were a little flat (Thursday)," Grimsley coach Darren Corbett said.

Aaron Wise scored 15 points for Grimsley, and Keith Manley hit two more free throws than Smith attempted (10-to-8) as part of a 14-point, 8-rebound night.

Rodd Douglas had 15 points on five 3-pointers to lead the Golden Eagles, who are still seeking their first win in coach Brian Jones' first season.

"With kids that young, they get over things pretty quick. Going into games, you wouldn't even know we're winless," Jones said. "It's during games, when things go bad, that you get that feeling of 'here we go again' that we have to fight."
