Businesses and institutions interested in composting organic waste from their facilities can learn more about the process at a seminar to be held in Greensboro in February.
The N.C. Composting Council's seminar will focus on compostable products such as plates, servingware and bowls. Speakers will address the following questions:
• What are the differences between compostable, biodegradable and disposable products?
• Do these products really compost and under what conditions?
• How do I decide what compostable products my company should procure?
• Are there issues with genetically-modified organisms that I need to be aware of?
• How do I develop a sustainable compostable products program?
• What steps should north Carolina take to ensure that sustainable and compostable products are used in food service?
Seating is limited to a total of 125 attendees and three individuals per organization. Registration is $85 and must be received by Feb. 1. Forms will be available at www.carolinacompost.com next week. Or contact Craig Coker at (540) 890-1086 or cscoker@verizon.net.
The Compostable Products Seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Guilford County Extension Offices, 3309 Burlington Road, Greensboro.
