Offense

 

RICKY LEWIS, QB, Dudley, Sr.: More than 3,500 all-purpose yards and 44 TDs for the Triad 3-A Player of the Year, who finished 22-0 as a starter. Offensive coordinator Antonio Kirkpatrick: "He grew into a leadership role, but he always had it."

 

WILL NEWMAN, QB, Page, Sr.: He cracked opposing defenses by land and air, racking up 1,141 rushing yards, 1,674 passing yards and 34 total TDs. He was voted Metro 4-A Player of the Year for the second straight season.

 

RAY BUTCHEE, QB, Reidsville, Sr.: The focal point of a 44-points-per-game offense, he threw for 1,709 yards and 16 TDs, ran for 446 and 15 TDs and was named North State 2-A Player of the Year despite missing the last seven games of the season with a knee injury.

 

GERROD HERBIN, RB, Eastern Guilford, Sr.: One of the area's fastest players, he ran for 1,230 yards and 15 TDs on 150 carries en route to his second straight All-North State 2-A nod. Head coach Scott Loosemore: "His feet never stop."

 

FRED OVERBY, RB, Dudley, Sr.: The lead back in the Panthers' run-heavy offense, he piled up 1,715 yards and 21 touchdowns en route to an All-Triad 3-A selection. Head coach Steven Davis: "He has the ability to go the distance every time he touches the ball."

 

TONY WASHINGTON, WR, Andrews, Sr.: The player who head coach Rodney McKoy said "does everything full speed" caught 40 passes for 560 yards and 8 TDs, rushed for 420 yards and 5 TDs, returned four kicks for TDs and took two interceptions for TDs. He and Page kicker Matt Millisor were the only two Guilford County players to make the Shrine Bowl.

 

KENZEL DOE, WR, Reidsville, Sr.: He led the Rams with 49 catches for 906 yards and 6 TDs but also ran for more than 8 yards per carry and broke up a team-high 13 passes. Head coach Jimmy Teague called him "the hardest player on our team to replace."

 

JOEY FINISON, OL, Ragsdale, Sr.: The 6-foot-4, 280-pound, Duke-bound senior "is strong and quick for a player his size," head coach Tommy Norwood said. "He also has good quickness and he is a good athlete. Joey is an excellent student and he plays very hard."

 

JORDAN FULK, OL, Northeast Guilford, Sr.: Just 6-foot, 195 pounds, "he must always block bigger guys in our run-oriented offense," head coach Tomy Pursley said, but "he's our best offensive lineman." Also started at defensive tackle.

 

ADAM SCOTT, OL, Northwest Guilford, Sr.: A four-year starter and two-time All-Metro 4-A selection, he also had 69 tackles and 9 sacks. Head coach Joe Woodruff: "This kid's motor is always running. He has the highest character of any player I've seen."

 

DASH WYATT, OL, Northwest Guilford, Sr.: A two-way starter, he anchored the line for one of the area's most effective running games. The two-time All-Metro 4-A selection was "very physical and tenacious," head coach Joe Woodruff said.

 

MATT MILLISOR, K/P, Page, Sr.: One of the most talented kickers in the state, he converted 37 of 40 extra points, had eight field goals (long of 45), put more than 80 percent of his kickoffs in the end zone and averaged 40 yards a punt. Head coach Kevin Gillespie: "He is a solid young man. You can count on him."

 

WARREN SCOTT, KR, Southern Guilford, Jr.: Averaged over 23 yards per kickoff return and 33 yards per punt return, including a touchdown. He also ran for 827 yards and 7 TDs and was the Storm's offensive player of the year. Head coach Darryl Brown: "Tough, hard-nosed runner who has the ability to make people miss."

 

Defense

 

JAMES PEGUES, DL, Southeast Guilford, Sr.: A two-year captain and three-year All-Mid-Piedmont 3-A selection, he had 102 tackles, 6 sacks and two forced fumbles for a defense that allowed just 14.3 points per game.

 

CHRIS NEAL, DL, Dudley, Sr.: He led the Panthers' punishing defense with 112 tackles and 24 sacks, something head coach Steven Davis attributes to a "never give up on a play type of mentality."

 

DAMIEN LEE, DL, Reidsville, Sr.: The most punishing member of a defense that allowed 7.3 points per game, the two-time All-North State 2-A selection had 37 of his 108 tackles for loss (including 8 sacks) and forced five fumbles.

 

MASON KING, DL, Southern Guilford, Sr.: A two-time All-North State 2-A honoree, he had 75 tackles (18 for loss) and six sacks. Head coach Darryl Brown: "He never gave up on any play. His effort was relentless on every snap."

 

JOSH JONES, DL, Dudley, Sr.: A two-way starter, he had 90 tackles (15 for loss) and was named defensive MVP of the 3-AA state championship game.

 

JAMES MOORMAN, LB, High Point Central, Jr.: The Metro 4-A defensive player of the year, he led the Bison with 155 tackles and 10 tackles for loss. Head coach Wayne Jones: "James plays every play hard. He always finds his way to the football."

 

RICKY DOWDY, LB, High Point Central, Sr.: N.C. State commitment took free aim on opposing backfields this season en route to 105 tackles and 17 sacks. Head coach Wayne Jones: "He is a good speed rusher who gets to quarterbacks a lot."

 

BILLY STONE, LB, Ragsdale, Jr.: His 125 tackles earned him Mid-Piedmont 3-A defensive player of the year honors. Head coach Tommy Norwood: "He has the ability to find the ball and make plays. He is a great tackler and a great competitor."

 

ALEX HARRISON, DB, Southeast Guilford, Sr.: The versatile All-Mid-Piedmont 3-A selection had three interceptions and also led the Falcons with 1,223 rushing yards.

 

BRIAN WEBB, FS, Southeast Guilford, Sr.: He had 82 tackles, five interceptions, three blocked punts and was voted the team's most valuable defensive player. Also had 650 all-purpose yards.

 

KEENAN ALLEN, DB, Northern Guilford, Jr.: What didn't he do? Besides a team-high nine interceptions, he carried 64 times for 554 yards and 8 TDs, caught 42 passes for 709 yards, completed all three of his pass attempts and averaged 42.3 yards per punt. Head coach Johnny Roscoe: "A leader by action. He does not want to come off the field."

 

Second team

CORY MCKENNA, QB, Western Guilford, Sr.: Completed 59 percent of passes for 15 TDs and county-best 2,610 yards.

TIM ROMER, QB, Ragsdale, Sr.: Completed 108 of 185 passes for 1,271 yards and 21 TDs and was "a tremendous leader," head coach Tommy Norwood said.

BRANDON EASTER, RB, Western Guilford, Sr.: Ran for 1,213 yards and 10 TDs, returned two punts for scores and had 42 tackles as a DB.

CHRIS KENNEDY, RB, Northwest Guilford, Sr.: Three-year starter had 1,000+ yards and was "one of the best leaders I've seen," head coach Joe Woodruff said.

MAURICE HARRIS, WR, Northern Guilford, So.: 417 yards and 8 TDs. Also intercepted 5 passes and saw time at QB.

JABRI RIDENHOUR, WR, Western Guilford, Jr.: Caught 64 balls and was only Guilford WR to top 1,000 yards (1,021).

JULIUS HOOKS, WR, Western Guilford, Sr.: Had 41 receptions for 709 yards and 5 TDs, 48 rushes for 371 yards and 2 TDs and returned two kickoffs for scores.

NATE PERDUE, OL, Northwest Guilford, Sr.: Two-time All-Metro 4-A choice didn't allow a sack all season.

JAZZ TOTTEN, OL, Reidsville, Sr.: Two-way starter also had 7.5 sacks and six forced fumbles.

CHRIS JASPERSE, OL, Page, Sr.: Two-way starter had 53 pancake blocks, 54 tackles.

DONOVAN ARTIS, OL, Southern Guilford, Sr.: Two-way starter was "heart and soul of our team," head coach Darryl Brown said.

KASEY REDFERN, K/P, Ragsdale, Jr.: Hit 5 of 6 field goals, made 31 extra points and put most of his kickoffs in the end zone.

ALTON CRUTCHFIELD, KR, McMichael, Sr.: Returned 4 kickoffs for TDs, had two more called back.

GARRETT LEWIS, DL, Northeast Guilford, Sr.: Started on both lines, was leading special teams tackler and "the best long snapper we have ever had," head coach Tommy Pursley said.

BRANDON CARRINGTON, DL, Smith, Sr.: 118 tackles, 8.5 sacks, unanimous All-Metro 4-A.

CHARLES GOODWIN, DL, Andrews, Sr.: 78 tackles, 10 sacks, All-Piedmont Triad 3-A. Head coach Rodney McKoy: "He was never out of place."

ANDRE OLIVER, LB, Grimsley, Jr.: With team-high 137 tackles, coaches called him "the heart and soul of a young defense."

MUSTAFA STINSON, LB, Western Guilford, Sr.: The Hornets' leader had 108 tackles, five sacks and six forced fumbles.

MIKE STACEY, LB, Reidsville: Led Rams with 124 tackles, including 5.5 sacks. Also ran for 9 TDs.

JONATHAN SPAIN, LB, Page, Jr.: First-year LB led Pirates with 158 tackles, 20 for loss.

MATT MCFATTER, LB, Morehead, Sr.: Two-way starter and All-Triad 3-A pick had 105 tackles.

MICHAEL SANDERS, DB, Northeast Guilford, Jr.: 5-foot-4 sparkplug is second safety in school history with 100+ tackles. Also had 10+ yards per carry.

LASHAWN BROWN, DB, Grimsley, So.: Picked off 4 passes, ran for 780 yards and filled in at QB when starter got hurt.

JAMES PARKER, DB, Southern Guilford, Sr.: All-North State 2-A honoree had 49 tackles and a team-high 5 INT.
