Are you ready to go to bat to help end hunger in your community this winter? Hits 4 Hunger organizer Jeff Webster hopes so.
Hits 4 Hunger is a canned-food drive starting Monday and running through Jan. 31 at Greensboro Batting Center, 3917 High Point Road.
"Hits 4 Hunger is a campaign we started to raise awareness among the youth who participate in the Greensboro Batting Center's youth baseball teams," Webster said.
Residents who bring two canned food items when they buy five tickets to use the batting cages will receive five free tickets.
Residents are also asked to bring a Hits 4 Hunger coupon from the center's Web site, www.greensborobatting.com.
Webster said people are also encouraged to bring more than two canned goods if they can.
"There is no limit," he said.
"We recognize that the need in the community this year is even greater than years before, so we really want to help," he said.
"We appreciate Greensboro Batting Center owner Alan Ashkinazy for facilitating this."
Webster said the batting center has 16 youth teams with participants ages 8 to 12.
In late January, Webster said, the teams will hold a hit-a-thon, an event to help Greensboro Urban Ministry.
"We haven't selected a date yet, but all proceeds from the hit-a-thon will be given to Greensboro Urban Ministry."
