You wouldn't want to be Amos Quick today. Even in his special T-shirt.
This afternoon in Winston-Salem, he'll watch Dudley High battle Kannapolis Brown for the state 3A football crown. And more than likely, he'll watch the action on the sidelines more than the action on the field.
Why? His daughters Jasmine and Raven.
Jasmine, 17, dances for Dudley High. Raven, 16, cheers for Kannapolis Brown. They're best friends. But not today. They're not talking. And they're pestering their dad with one question: "Daddy, who are you pulling for?"
Well, he ain't sayin'. And he's even a Dudley High grad, class of 1986, and vice chairman of the Guilford County Board of Education.
He'll sit two quarters on the side of Kannapolis Brown, and two quarters on Dudley's side, wearing his special T-shirt. The two words on the front say everything: Dad's Dilemma.
"Somebody's got to lose. I think the winner will have to spend a little more money on the loser's Christmas present,'' Quick says, laughing. "But despite all that, there's nothing better than hearing the word 'Daddy' from opposite sides of the football field."
