GREENSBORO - The coordinator for Greensboro-Guilford County Crime Stoppers was awarded Monday with the state's highest civilian honor.
Sandy Tew of the Greensboro Police Department received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award in a ceremony this morning from the North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission.
"Ms. Tew has been integral in the success of the Crime Stoppers program in her own local department as well as throughout North Carolina and Southeastern U.S.," according to a police news release.
"She has received numerous awards from across the state and has helped to organize more than 90 Crime Stopper programs with other police agencies."
Tew has served as president of the N.C. Crime Stoppers Association and as an officer and board member for many years.
