GREENSBORO — A 53-year-old man avoided serious injuries when someone tried to steal his pickup truck outside a local motel Sunday night.
Greensboro police said Preston Powell Phillips of Summerfield was getting out of his Chevrolet Colorado at the Cavalier Inn when a man opened his passenger door. The suspect threatened Phillips, then punched him. When the suspect could not gain control of the pickup truck, he ran away.
Phillips drove from the motel at 312 West JJ Drive to Moses Cone Hospital for treatment. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening.
Police described the suspect as a black man in his 20s who stands 5-foot-4. He wore a red and black jacket and has gold teeth.
