GREENSBORO — Fire investigators suspect a ceiling fan sparked a blaze at a duplex apartment Monday morning.

Two adults and a child escaped without injury when the fire broke out at 815 Gregory St. at 10:15 a.m. Monday. Greensboro firefighters arrived to heavy smoke. They needed 43 minutes to bring the blaze completely under control.

Fire officials say the fire was accidental. The probable cause is some sort of electrical failure in a ceiling fan.

The fire department estimated structural damage at $27,000 and said another $10,000 of the apartment's contents were damaged by smoke and fire.

Only one of the two apartment units were occupied.
