A third consecutive unbeaten regular season of league play translated into individual honors for UNCG forward Katelynn Donovan and Spartans coach Eddie Radwanski, who were named the Southern Conference's player and coach of the year, respectively, on Thursday.
Donovan, a senior from Melville, N.Y., amassed 22 of her regular season's points in SoCon play and became the program's sixth player of the year in the school's 12 years of membership. She is the ninth player in Spartan women's soccer history to score a dozen goals in a single season. She follows in the footsteps of her older sister Shannon, who won the conference's top honor in 2006 as a member of the Spartans.
Radwanski earned the coaching citation for the third consecutive season.
UNCG, 16-4-1, returns to action today in the semifinals of the league tournament in Mount Pleasant, S.C. The Spartans will face Furman, which upset them in last year's championship game and which they defeated 3-2 last month in what was probably their toughest regular-season conference game.
Spartans accounted for nearly half of the All-SoCon first team. Donovan was joined in the group by midfielder Jen Bronson; defenders Jamie Corti and Lauren Lopez; and goalkeeper Kelsey Kearney.
