GREENSBORO — A woman who prayed aloud fended off a robbery suspect who complained that his prospective victim was being too noisy.
Greensboro police gave this account of the incident, which happened at 8 p.m. Wednesday:
Kathy Headen, 39, was retrieving books from the rear seat of her vehicle at the Vance Chavis Library at 900 S. Benbow Road. A man with a handgun approached Headen and demanded her cell phone and purse.
Headen began to pray aloud. The man asked her to stop talking so loudly, then left without taking anything. Police dogs tracked the suspect to Duke Street, where the trail ended. Headen was not hurt.
Police described the suspect as a black man in his mid 30s who stands 5-foot-4. He was clean shaven and wore dark blue work pants, a blue shirt and a blue hat. Anyone with information about this incident can call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.
