Guilford County is set to break its highest-ever early voting turnout today.
Figures released from the county's Board of Elections staff this morning said that 73,923 voters have cast ballots here, where about 340,000 are registered to vote. That's about one-fifth of registered voters.
In 2004, a presidential election year, nearly 77,857 early votes were cast in Guilford County, which was about 26 percent of registered voters that year.
On Monday all 19 early voting sites opened to voters, who cast 14,015 ballots. Early voting ends Nov. 1, and Election Day is Nov. 4.
As of Monday morning, 1.2 million have already voted in North Carolina, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections. There are 6.2 million registered voters in the state.
