It’s time to clean up all those beautiful leaves you enjoyed this summer and fall. Last year, more than 16 million pounds of leaves were collected in Greensboro alone, city officials say.
Here’s how Greensboro and High Point are planning to help you dispose of this year’s fallen leaves.
GREENSBORO
Greensboro’s annual leaf collection begins Nov. 10. Residents get two scheduled leaf collections for leaves that are raked to the curb.
PICKUP:
- Leaves that are curbside by Nov. 10 will be picked up by Dec. 6.
- Leaves that are curbside by Dec. 8 will be picked up by Jan. 16.
TIPS:
- Be sure to rake leaves to the edge of your yard behind the curb — not into the street.
- Remove sticks, rocks and other debris, which can damage the city’s equipment.
- Do not park vehicles on, in front of or near your leaves.
- The collected leaves are made into compost to fertilize city gardens and landscaped areas.
- Residents may buy compost at the White Street Landfill, 2503 White St. Information: 373-2489.
- Greensboro residents can also use the year-round yard waste pickup for leaves. Put your leaves in clear plastic bags or in a plastic or metal garbage can and set them at the curb on your regular trash collection day.
- The leaf collection schedule may change because of inclement weather. The program does not service private streets.
- Once the leaf collection program begins, residents can check the status of collection by visiting an interactive map at www.greensboro-nc.gov/departments/fieldops or by calling 373-2489.
HIGH POINT
High Point’s leaf collection is arranged by the day of the week residents get garbage pickup. There are two leaf pickups for each.
PICKUP:
- Those with Monday pickup will have leaves collected the week of Dec. 1 and the week of Jan. 12.
- Those with Tuesday pickup will have leaves collected the week of Dec. 8 and the week of Jan. 20.
- Those with Wednesday pickup will have leaves collected the week of Nov. 10 and the week of Dec. 29.
- Those with Thursday pickup will have leaves collected the week of Nov. 17 and the week of Jan. 5.
