EDEN — Bernie Moore has been named the new fire chief for the City of Eden.
Moore, a 32-year firefighting veteran, had been serving as interim chief. The city's previous chief, Doug Cline, resigned in July to take a training position with the High Point Fire Department. The appointment is effective immediately.
"Bernie's extensive knowledge and experience with the Eden Fire Department coupled with the fact that he is well respected by both his peers and others throughout the Eden community made him the logical choice," Eden city manager Brad Corcoran said in a news release. "I have great confidence in Bernie's leadership potential and believe he will be an excellent addition to our management team."
Moore is a Morehead High School graduate and former member of the National Guard. He has spent 19 years as a full-time firefighter with the Eden fire department. Prior to being hired, he was a volunteer firefighter for 13 years with the department.
