ASHEVILLE (AP) - Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will make a weekend campaign stop in North Carolina.

A release from the John McCain campaign said Palin will visit Asheville on Sunday for a "Road To Victory Rally" at the Asheville Civic Center.

The event is scheduled to begin after 4 p.m.

Palin last visited North Carolina with an appearance at Elon University on Oct. 16. Sunday's rally will be her third visit to the state in as many weeks.

The McCain campaign has recently ramped up efforts to defend the state, which has not voted for a Democrat for president since 1976 but is trending toward Democrat Barack Obama this year.

Obama made a campaign stop in Asheville earlier this month and prior to a debate with McCain.
