Residents of southeastern Guilford County won't have so far to drive now for a hand-tossed pizza or calzone.

Angelia's Pizza (5315-A Liberty Road, Greensboro; 674-0060; www.ncangeliaspizza.com) has opened at the new Forest Oaks Commons at the entrance to Forest Oaks.

This is the second Angelia's Pizza location for owners Bill and Kathy Dudich , who opened Angelia's Pizza in Climax in 2003, not long after moving to North Carolina from Pittsburgh. Kathy Dudich wanted to be closer to her parents in the Forest Oaks community, but a suitable location in southeastern Guilford County was just not possible at that time because of sewer issues. When Forest Oaks Commons was built, Kathy Dudich says, she was the first one to sign a lease.

It's a perfect fit for the Dudiches. Active members of the community, they have two sons, one an alumnus of Southeast Guilford High School and the other a student there. The Dudiches are contracted for the concessions at the school's sporting events and often cater other student functions and extracurricular activities.

In keeping with the Angelia's concept, founded by a former neighbor in Pennsylvania, they bring the dough in from Pittsburgh for the Steak Ranch Pizza ($7.75 for a 9-inch to $16.49 for a 16-inch), the Taco Pizza ($7.49-$15.99), Chicken and Broccoli Pizza ($7.49-$15.99) and the Spinach Pizza ($7.49-$15.99). Or order a classic cheese, white or Sicilian-style pie and add your own toppings. Sicilian-style is offered by the slice for $2.25, toppings extra.

Angelia's also offers calzones, such as the loaded Italian ($7.25) and the Steak Special ($8.49), or give yourself a Wedgie. Yes, Wedgie. It's a Think calzone sandwich. Options include the Veggie ($6.99) and a Steak or Chicken ($7.49) served with Italian dressing.

Or simply go for a classic sub with options that include a classic Italian ($4.29 for half, $6.99 whole), Meatball ($4.29/$6.99) or the Crafton ($4.29/$6.99), named after a Pittsburgh neighborhood and loaded with pepperoni, hot peppers, sausage and extra cheese.

Angelia's also offers salads, wings (Honey French, Cajun, Garlic Parmesan) and gyros. In addition to a lunch special, Angelia's has daily pizza specials, such as two medium pizzas with two toppings for $16.49 on Wednesday, an extra large pizza with one topping for $12.25 on Friday, two extra large pizzas with three toppings for $25.50 on Saturday and an extra large pie with four toppings for $14.25 on Sunday.

Angelia's offers beer and wine, including selections by Turner and North Carolina's Shelton Vineyard. The restaurant will host a wine tasting from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday with samples for customers and discounts on bottle purchases.

Angelia's hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and noon-9 p.m. Sunday.

High Point favorite returns

After five years of service, the closure of Southern Roots in High Point last year left a void in many palates. But owner Lisa Hawley vowed to open in a new location, and it seems she has found the spot.

Hawley says she plans to reopen Southern Roots later this fall, but this time in Jamestown. Keep us posted, Lisa. Foundation seeks help Friends of Gateway Foundation needs the help of area restaurants. The foundation is sponsoring the eighth annual Red Hot Restaurant Raffle in conjunction with the annual Holiday Charity Art Auction at the Greensboro Children's Museum Nov. 22.

The foundation is accepting gift certificates from local restaurants to be raffled at this event to benefit exceptional children's classrooms in Guilford County Schools.
