STONEVILLE — Possible sightings of a missing 76-year-old Alzheimer's patient have failed to pan out for the numerous area law enforcement agencies that have spent the past three days looking for him.
Stoneville police said Tuesday that residents reported seeing Dallas Gray "Red" Dunlap on Monday night. One report came about 7:30 p.m. from a hunter who said he heard someone in a heavily wooded area northwest of Stoneville, according to police. Officers used K-9 teams to search the area but found no one.
Dunlap is believed to have left his home early Sunday, said his daughter, Tabi White. White said her father didn't want to go to bed Saturday night. His wife, Ruth, stayed up with him most of the night but fell asleep some time after 1 a.m. Sunday, White said.
White said her father has left home before but has never wandered far or for very long. She wants anyone who may encounter him to know that he is not a violent man.
"I don't want anybody to be afraid of him. Just help him," White said Tuesday afternoon. "We just want to get him home."
Police say search dogs tracked a scent Monday north on the U.S. 220 Bypass for about two miles. White said her father has family in Oak Ridge, Greensboro and Stokes County.
A Silver Alert has been issued for Dunlap. He is a white male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighs 185 pounds. He has blue eyes, is balding and has a scar on his nose. He was last seen wearing a red plaid pajama top, dark gray pants and white tennis shoes.
Anyone with information about Dunlap is asked to call 573-9861.
