N.C. A&T's women's basketball team is the favorite to win the MEAC, according to a coaches' poll, and senior guard Amber Bland is the league's preseason player of the year. Also honored were A&T senior forward Brittanie Taylor-James (first team) and junior guard Ta'Wuana Cook (second team). The Aggies, who return five starters from a team that went 25-8 overall and 15-1 in the MEAC last season, garnered 18 of the possible 21 first-place votes. Joining Bland and Taylor-James on the first team are Corin Adams (Morgan State, April McBride (Maryland-Eastern Shore) and Whitney Cunningham (Coppin State). Joining Cook on the second team are Casey Morton (Maryland-Eastern Shore), Tiffany Reid (Maryland-Eastern Shore), Danielle Anders (Coppin State) and Marie Reid (S.C. State).

GREENSBORO COLLEGE: Greensboro College is picked to finish first in the USA South Conference, according to a coaches' poll. The Pride captured both the regular season and tournament championships last season for the third time in four years.

N.C. A&T: N.C. A&T is picked to finish eighth in the 11-team MEAC. The Aggies have no returning starters from a team that won 15 games and finished 9-7 in the conference last season. Coppin State's Tywain McKee was selected as the MEAC's preseason player of the year while Morgan State was picked to finish first.
GREENSBORO COLLEGE: Greensboro College is picked to finish sixth in the USA South Conference. Averett is picked first.
MEN'S TENNIS
ISNER ADVANCES: Greensboro's John Isner won his first-round singles match late Tuesday in the U.S. Tennis Association Challenger series event in Calabasas, Calif. Isner, seeded seventh, defeated Colin Ebelthite of Australia 6-4, 6-4 to set up a second-round match with fellow American Sam Warburg today. Isner and his doubles partner, Rajeev Ram, are seeded first and opened play late Wednesday night against brothers Brian and Dann Battistone, the same team who beat them in the USTA Challenger final last week in Sacramento, Calif.
