Area Walgreens drug stores will offer free flu shots to people with one of the more than 40 diseases covered by the Muscular Dystrophy Association and who have obtained a voucher from that agency.

Flu is particularly dangerous to patients with muscular dystrophy and other diseases that affect breathing muscles.

Clinics will be held at the following locations and times:

1 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday at 2019 N. Main St., High Point

1 p.m.-8 p.m. Oct. 24 at 1015 Randolph St., Thomasville

10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 1 at 904 N. Main St., High Point

1 p.m.-8 p.m. Nov. 5 at 4701 W. Market St.

9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 11 at 317 S. Main St., Graham

1 p.m.-8 p.m. Nov. 13 at 3529 N. Elm St.

9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 19 at 5727 High Point Road

9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 24 at 1600 Spring Garden St.

10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 16 at 3703 Lawndale Road.

Food Lion

Food Lion stores have partnered with Maxim Health Systems to make flu shots available to customers this fall.

Visit or call your local Food Lion to obtain dates and times for the flu clinics. A flu clinic will be held at individual Food Lion stores through Nov. 22.

Kerr Drug

Kerr Drug is the official pharmacy of the 2008 N.C. State Fair and will be providing flu shots on site at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds.

They will be administering the $30 flu shot (credit cards accepted) to anyone at least 18 years old. Qualified insurance cards will be accepted including Medicare and Blue Cross BlueShield.

Where: Inside the large white dome across from Dorton Arena at the fairgrounds

When: October 16-26, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. (Note on Oct. 16, hours will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.)

Fall High Point Market

Cornerstone Health Care will offer flu shots at the October 2008 Fall High Point Market for $20, which covers the cost of the vaccine.

They will be provided from the hospital's HOPE Unit parked on Wrenn Street behind the Radisson Hotel. Shots will be available starting Oct. 18 through Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Harris Teeter pharmacies

Harris Teeter pharmacies will offer flu shots through Nov. 19. For dates, times and locations, click here.
