GREENSBORO — Two writers of Greensboro history will speak at UNCG on Oct. 22.

Jim Schlosser, a retired News & Record reporter, is the author of "The Beat Goes On: A Celebration of Greensboro's Character and Diversity." His book collects more than 100 history-related articles written during his 41 years with the newspaper. It was edited by historian Gayle Fripp and published by the Greensboro Bicentennial Commission.

Howard Covington Jr. wrote "Once upon a City: Greensboro N.C.'s Second Century," a narrative history of Greensboro in the 20th century. The book chronicles the city's growth from a country town to a manufacturing and financial center for central North Carolina.

The event, which starts at 7 p.m. in the Elliott University Center's Cone Ballroom, is free and open to the public. Both authors will sign copies of their books.
