Several organizations at GTCC have joined forces to establish the GTCC Food Pantry to provide food for students and their families.
The food pantry service will be available to students at the Greensboro, High Point and aviation campuses.
Students at the satellite campuses may submit food orders and have food sent to their campus.
"We understand that students need help, but sometimes it's hard for them to admit they need it," said Margot Horney of GTCC.
Horney said anyone with a GTCC-issued identification badge will be able to receive food.
"We have had many students who apply for emergency loans say, 'If I didn't get this money, I don't know how I would eat.' It's impossible to hear that and not want to do something," Horney said.
"A lot of our students work full time and already have children. We want to encourage our students to stay in school, so it's great to be able to feed their stomachs in addition to their minds."
The Student Government Association, GTCC Foundation, GTCC Alumni Association, the staff association and the faculty association are participating in the program.
Members of all of these organizations, students and the public are urged to contribute nonperishable food to the pantry, Horney said.
The GTCC Foundation will accept cash donations in addition to nonperishable food items, Horney said.
Food will be distributed beginning Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The pantry will be in the student government office on the cafeteria level of Medlin Campus Center on the Jamestown campus.
