ALAMANCE — A 13-year-old boy was killed Tuesday night as he crossed a state highway on his skateboard.

The Highway Patrol identified the victim as Brandon Gough, who lived in the Village of Alamance.

According to the Highway Patrol, Gough was crossing N.C. 49 South just north of Bellemont Alamance Road (map here) when he was struck by a Chevrolet Blazer SUV traveling north on the highway.

Gough died at the scene. The Highway Patrol said it did not appear that speed or alcohol played a role. It was not immediately clear this morning if charges would be filed.

The Highway Patrol did not identify the driver of the SUV.

The accident occurred about 5 miles south of Burlington.
