JACKSONVILLE (AP) - Michelle Obama is telling North Carolina voters there is "only one candidate in this race" who will work to give military families the services and care they need.

Speaking to a crowd of military families near Camp Lejeune, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Tuesday her husband backs the programs they care about - including improving veterans' benefits and mental health care for troops.

Obama didn't mention GOP nominee John McCain by name during Tuesday's gathering in Jacksonville.

Her visit comes as Obama works to win North Carolina's 15 electoral votes. The state hasn't picked a Democratic presidential candidate in more than 30 years.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was scheduled to speak at East Carolina University in Greenville later Tuesday.
