Local Republicans confirmed Friday that President Bush is due to visit Greensboro on Sept. 30 for a fundraiser.

According those who had knowledge of the event, it will be held at the home of Louis DeJoy and Ambassador Aldona Wos in the Irving Park neighborhood.

"I will be there but it will be from a security standpoint," Guilford County sheriff BJ Barnes said. Although he is a figure in local Republican politics, Barnes said his role will be to help provide security for the event.

"Last time he was at that house, I was out front eating pizza with my guys," he said.

Barnes said he had been told the event would be in the evening.

County Commissioner Linda Shaw and other local Republicans also confirmed news of the fundraiser, although details were still sketchy.

DeJoy, chairman and CEO of New Breed, did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.

President Bush cancelled a fundraising trip scheduled for this week in Alabama in Florida to deal with the developing economic crisis.
