WILMINGTON (AP) — A 21-year-old Wilmington man will serve between 20 and 25 years in prison after being found guilty of fatally stabbing a friend over a DVD.
The Star-News of Wilmington reported that Kareem Michael Lamont Allen was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Iam Flemming Franks. Franks died after being attacked outside a Wilmington convenience store two years ago.
New Hanover County assistant district attorney Janet Coleman said Allen started a fight when he couldn't find his aunt's copy of a movie. She said Franks cut Allen in the arm trying to get away from him.
Coleman said Allen lured Franks to a location where Franks tried to give him $20 for the DVD. Instead, she said, Allen stabbed Franks three times, including once through the heart.
