Join Room at the Inn of the Carolinas for a scenic ride across four North Carolina counties.
The ride starts at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 13 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2200 N. Elm St., Greensboro.
The first-ever Charity Poker Run benefitting Room at the Inn is open to people wanting to ride their motorcycles, drive in their vehicles or just meet at the end of the ride back at St. Pius for a grilled lunch, said Elizabeth A. Hedgecock, associate director of Room at the Inn of the Carolinas.
Woody Regan, chairman for the ride and Room at the Inn board member, “has planned a wonderful ride with beautiful scenery, along with some games along the way,” Hedgecock said.
The ride is $25 for each motorcycle or car, $10 each additional poker hand and $8 for each additional passenger or rider. The cost includes lunch.
Prizes will be offered to the top three poker hands, Hedgecock said.
For those who just want to meet for the lunch at noon at St. Pius X, the cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
All funds will go to Room at the Inn programs and housing.
Room at the Inn offers maternity housing for abandoned and homeless mothers 12 and older, and subsidized housing, along with day care services, job placement and opportunities to enroll in college.
“We are one of the few organizations in the state that take women with previous children. The whole process is to help them move to self-sufficiency so they can provide a life with dignity to their families,” Hedgecock said.
“We are happy to have anyone wanting to support the work and ministry of Room at the Inn. We always say Room at the Inn is where hope is born. There’s no better way to help someone than to offer them hope,” she said.
