GREENSBORO - Flash flooding caused the release of untreated sewage at two places in the city Wednesday.

City officials reported that 1200 gallons of untreated wastewater was released for one hour at 3740 Battleground Ave. from an 8 inch water main, according to a city news release.

The water entered the Horsepen Creek tributary of the Haw River basin and stopped after the flooding stopped, the city said.

Flooding also caused a second release of 1,400 gallons of untreated water at 1215 Henderson Road for four hours from another 8 inch water main.

That discharge entered the Buffalo Creek north tributary of the Haw River basin.

Both sewer mains and creeks were monitored to prevent further discharge, officials said.

The city did not specify the time the discharges occurred.
