RALEIGH (AP) - North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr is in Minnesota to help prepare the Republican party's platform.
Burr is co-chairman of the GOP's Platform Committee. It meets every four years to adopt a platform that outlines the principles and policies of the party. California Rep. Kevin McCarthy chairs the committee this year.
The 112-member Platform Committee will meet this week to prepare the platform that it will present at the Republican National Convention next week.
Burr said Monday the platform will focus on issues raised by people around the country including immigration and energy.
The Democrats are prepared to adopt a similar document that commits the party to the principle of guaranteed health care for all.
