GREENSBORO (AP) - Carl Pettersson has produced the latest record-breaking performance at the Wyndham Championship.
Pettersson shot a tournament-record 61 Friday and matched the PGA Tour record with a two-round score of 15-under 125. Late Friday afternoon, play was suspended due to the rain. Play later resumed after a rain delay of 1 hour, 11 minutes.
Pettersson went to high school in Greensboro, played collegiately at North Carolina State and serves on the tournament's board of directors. He shot a 30 through his opening nine holes. Six of his 11 birdies came on the front nine.
His remarkable round eclipsed the Wyndham's previous low of 62. It also shattered the Sedgefield Country Club course record of 63 that was matched a day earlier by first-round co-leaders Bob Heintz and Martin Laird.
Pettersson's 36-hole score equaled the tour record shared by Tiger Woods, Mark Calcavecchia, Tom Lehman and Corey Pavin.
